My Opinion on Wix vs. Web Designers

I think many people underestimate the power of Wix.

Many say that they don't think Wix will ever replace the Web Designer.

Yes, web designers will always be needed, but Wix is definitely affecting the market somehow.

Let me explain why.

Wix is Getting Better.

I am not just talking about Wix.

I am talking about WordPress page builders like Divi, Elementor Pro, Brizy, and others are getting pretty damn easy to use.

They are so easy to use, that I was even able to launch a Website creation service with beginner to intermediate knowledge of WordPress.

I will admit that I do know HTML and CSS. And I do know some advance functions of WordPress but nothing too crazy.

So the market is bound to get over flooded, and many of us know this to be the case already.

Wix is not that expensive.

Start-ups who can't justify spending thousands of dollars for a simple brochure style website, will look for alternatives.

And they will find Wix or similar page builders.

So the bottom part of the market will be affected.

Solution?

Embrace these page builders and use them to your advantage. Because even those start-ups that will opt to Wix still need help.

They don't understand the internet like us.

They can't sell like us.

They don't have the marketing brain like us.

It's not about the website you are selling.

It's about the person you are selling (you).

You have knowledge that they will never have even if you are using a page builder.

Because we will keep learning what is working.

And they won't focus like we will.

So they won't be able to resist but to hire us.


Conclusion

Wix will take away some clients.

But if you change your strategy from a website builder, to an internet expert, you'll pick up the clients who actually take their business serious.

Don't fear the page builders. Embrace them, and use them to your advantage.

They are making our lives easier.

We just have to approach the game differently.

I concur. WIX has certainly impacted the market, whether people want to acknowledge it or not.

Hell, they're now a publicly-traded company.

That, in and of itself, speaks volumes of how deep their roots run in the web-dev space.

I'd say shopify changed the market, and the other page builders stepped up their game

And I believe web design will become easier for the average Joe, since most people are actually using tech now, unlike the past when only the geeks had a computer. Now everyone has them in their pockets.

Shopify definately helped.

I think that whatever happens, page builders/wix can not and will not 100% replace web designers/developers. Sure you can produce a page builder that does everything you can think of through a UI and no coding knowledge at all, but in order for the end users to exactly match their needs they will need to customize the functionality or the looks of the website, for that a designer/developer is needed.

Imagine using those page builders as is with no knowledge of css,js. Or even having to match a customers need with an already made theme/template while php can help you create your own custom functionality on already designed pages.

No doubt Wix and some other website builder grabbed a good market in the Website Design industry but still, it totally depends on customer's choice and budget. Ex: Shopify killed e-commerce website designing industry at least in the people those are aware of these websites but when it comes to pricing you wouldn't believe but I have seen in my local market Freelance website designers providing WordPress or OpenCart based fully functional e-commerce portal in at $100 including Hosting, Domain, SSL and Social Media pages.

Wix is super cool; the only drawback I see about it is its slow-loading time. Apart from that, I think it trumps all other web page builders.
