Abusing drugs will take it's toll in the long run. Even if it does improve temporary performance, the long term effects on the body will be with the user longer than the temporary "benefits". It's not worth it. I have a cousin who took drugs for several years. She's now permanently trashed, in terms of problems. All of which started when she used. It's a down trend from when you start taking. I've personally never used. Never even tried because of what happened to my cousin.
On Mont Ventoux he rocketed away like a maniac, like there wasn't even a mountain to climb. It could be without drugs but he would have to be a super cycler.
If no one was using drugs, then the winner would have won it without drugs. Its just that since most if not all are on drugs, so if you try to enter the race being "clean" you will not win it.
