So in case you couldn't tell by the enthusiastic exclamation points in the title, I am a bit of a Microsoft enthusiast. I just switched over to Win8 a couple weeks ago (I work for Microsoft). So yeah I'm pretty stoked about the new OS release coming out to the public here soon. I think it is an innovative step for Microsoft. There are definitely some things that I would still like to see changed as far as aesthetic features, like clutter in the app store, apps need improving, and maybe some minor multitask features but overall I can see where Win8 is headed here in the near future and I'm definitely excited about it. Anyone else here gotten to use Win8 yet? Opinions?

For somebody to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8..what are the benefits
? I am thinking of switching but need to research if the features are worth it.

I've been using Windows 8 for some days now! :D and I think its quite good- better than Win 7

Future benefits? Windows 9 will be out in 2 years. Microsoft seems to make another OS every 2 years. They need to fine tune what they have and stop making so many new ones. Windows 7 is good, in my opinion.

I still run xp on a lot of my pcs.

Well its definitely more visually pleasing and customizable, but as far as functionality it is moving towards the era of multitasking. Almost like a smart phone or tablet on your computer with applications that are always open with notifications. You can also still use it in the familiar Win7 format, and download/install things that are Win7 compatible. It is far more geared towards the modern information age with social medias, news, games, trending topics, and anything else you could want all right in front of you on one screen.

Windows 8 is here. Wow.... I am gonna check it out.

Its not out yet to the public quite yet. Sometime here in the next week or so I believe. I cant recall the exact date.

You registered because you have big urge to tell us about the Win8, right? Should I thanks or what

2ujp64i.png Kind of a sad mini screenshot of my Win8... Cant figure out how to make it larger in my half zombiefied state of mind.

Not even sure what all this is about... haha Its just a friendly discussion pal. No need to get up in a wad. Just because I work for Microsoft does not mean I have any say in how they do things, nor am I even associated with the windows team. I build mice and keyboard prototypes... ;) And in case you hadn't noticed, this is the lounge for casual discussion so take your trolling negativity elsewhere.

Rrrriiiigggghhhhthttttt That's what I need, more desktop icons. No thanks. Win 7 is enough, XP was decent before that Vista was shiiiittte, it's like you guys only try on every other release so I think I'll skip this one. BTW this should be a tablet only release or you should change your ui for those on real computers..

I am using windows 8 preview from months now. I was happy in the beginning, but as time passed by, I noticed that many of the softwares are not compatible with it. I will switch back to XP, one of the best versions of windows.

I understand MS has the largest marketshare and shit, I also understand they know not everybody that has to accomplish actual work bought the bs of "we're all tabletizing ourselves and the globe"... Fair enough. But, do you remember at school when they said I appreciate the efforts they're making, then they said but [some complaint here]... I need to DO shit on a computer, I need something to type in NOT shiny tiles for retards or buttons with flashy rounded corners (there must be some apple employee too on here..), editors to crank out code, shortcuts, ways to streamline my WORK flow (again, notice the word WORK here?). That's what an OS for a PC should provide. I'm sorry this doesn't bring ANY of that to the table. There was a time, a LONG time ago, when -as a guy who worked extensively on most operating systems including netware, solaris and a lot others- I was excited to read about rumors coming out of Redmond of groundbreaking new sql-like filesystems that would revolutionize the storage on the consumer and server world or even -I'll admit- some new coding paradigms/languages, I followed the script guy column religiously. But that was a long time ago, a glorified fisher-price gui won't do that, sorry. If I want a toy I'll go buy an xbox or an ipad not a computer, that doesn't seem hard to understand. Maybe, since you work for Microsoft you should consider hiring some CEO/CTO with the glimpse of innovative vision Microsoft lost a long time ago. Maybe that will help us wowing things once again. Thanks.

Except x64 xp is worthless because nothing is compatible with it. Most people including myself want more than 3gb of ram. So ill be sticking with w7 which is fine since everything works and runs smooth

I finally switch from XP to 7 about 6 months ago, then finally install pre release win 8 about 2 months ago in another partition.

Win 8 have better performance compare to Win 7, but daily I still use 7.

I haven't found any non-compatible softwares yet but like I said I have only been using it for a couple weeks. Definitely some kinks that need to be worked out but this is true for almost all new software such as a new OS. I have reason to believe that Win8 will be an OS that they stick to for a while.

But do you REALLY want or need that shit on your screen all the time is the question....

Fuck winblows 8, it looks like shit

Let me guess, you are a community manager of Microsoft and you want us to promote it for you ?

Wrong speech, we don't care about the product, it universally sucks, how much do we earn per sales though ?
