windows 7 worth it?

I used windows 7 for a while myself. Mainly on VMware and I did not notice much of an improvement in speed. Possibly because it was running on a virtual machine. I don't really like the icon bar however I will probably be moving soon anyway.

Do you all have a reason not to use XP ?

Major releases:
There was win95 .. it was unstable
Then came win98, it was more stable but still had lots of issues
Win2000 was the first pretty stable release (let's ignore NT for now)
XP is Windows 2000 together with a (stupid) changed frontend, more recent bugfixes.
XP already has some pretty bad features but it's not too annoying.

After XP we had a bunch of stupid variants .. none of them bring anything we need.
Vista was the peak of stupidness, slowish, heavy memory usage, lots of useless crap and it introduced a lot of software incompatibility.

No one wants Vista, even businesses use XP as it's stable, more lightweight and doesn't have all those features that steal your time.

Microsoft realiced Vista is a fiasco, so they make something total NEW.
They take Vista, change it's modelling. Add a few features, remove a few features and to make clear it is not Vista they call it "Windows 7.0".

Now what do you get ? You get Vista + a bunch of features you don't want.

Use XP .. it's faster and got everything you need from an operating system. (already much more than most people actually want but not as shitty as vista or windows 7.0)

Lol, try windows 7, then post agian. windows 7 is a beast fucking best windows...

I hope its better than that garbage Vista... Vista has to be the worse distribution of Win since ME came out... I never plan on upgrading past XP while running Ubuntu on a diff' partition.

Hey Mond did you try what I suggested? I can't believe something as golden as that little tip doesn't even warrant a quick try....

Window's 7 is not Vista Revamped. Its Mac type operating system, which does not have the typical window's startup programs. Therefore making it faster and more stable, you run what you want to run. Nothing More.

Your statement just makes me think of this advert. Why use something like OSX, when you can have OSX? Although in Windoze case it has never been like OSX, it's just been a really bloated slow unstable copy. :)

Windows 7 is good. I've just move form XP to 7.
Installing Adobe Photoshop takes 30 minutes in Xp, with 7 it takes 10 minutes.
Everything seems to run more smoothly.

Only my NVIDIA 8400 GS can't run as a screen display on 7. I m waiting for a better driver form DELL.

Dude dont wait for dell just go to nvidia.com. They will have a much more upto date version than Dell.

I've been using it from the first beta up till the new OEM version that I'm running now. There were a couple bugs right at first but those were taken care of after the first few builds. I was a laptop tech for several years so I have dealt exstensively with both XP and Vista. Seven seems to be the best parts of both of them and then some.

Being a BHer, I am of course constantly testing new apps and such and I haven't found anything yet that this OS wont run. Nothing but impressive so far.

If MS had the foresight to price it down a bit (as oppsed to the ridiculous $200 a copy for Vista Ultimate) , they would hit a grand slam and most likely enjoy a huge surge in customer base. But hey, they're MS--they don't give a fuck because people are gonna buy they're shit anyway.:D

i am now using windows 7.. its fast ..loks good..and also felling goood

Hey man I used to have access to the MSDNAA while I was at Uni and there was a little bug in it that basically gave you access to as many serial numbers (LEGIT!!) as you wanted but only once per product. You could do it with all your mates accounts as well though. I don't know if this still works but if you want to try it I would love a serial if it still works ;)

Basically what you need to do is go through the steps to order it and then when you get to the stage of checkout (exact page is forgotten cos this was years ago) where you get your serial number and just refresh the page. It used to rotate serial numbers almost indefinitely (never got more than 10 but I heard some people got more). I had so many legit serials for XP pro it was silly.

If you wanna try this out you could do it on another app that you could get for free that uses serials and check if it works. When it worked for us we could get as many serials as we wanted for any app.

Just to answer anyone who may ask yes these serials worked with WGA and gave access to all support and were recognised as completely legit serials. Let me know how it goes.

It's not working anymore.

I just tried it.

When i add it to my cart and check out, there's not kinda the checkout process anymore. i'll get sent to the software overview page where there's the download, serial and some other information.
refreshing this page also doesn't use anything.

I use it and I must admit it is the far best operating system from BIG M by now

windows 7 is great. Finds every driver going auto. I've even noticed a boost in wireless speeds on my network using it on my network.

Could anyone explain what the heck are all these different versions?

Windows 7 Starter
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate

Vista is terrible, used XP up until 7beta and it's absolutely wonderful in comparison.

Marketing my friend. Different price points.

Windows 7 is amazing... end off. I always used either XP or ubuntu but I tried windows 7 for the last 2 weeks, it is immense.

Win 7 is awesome but note that coders are typically 6 years behind OSes.

Even 64 bit OS's are now 6 years old and there are very few 64 bit apps.

Realize that XP is over 8 years old.

Win 7 will be fully supported in 2015 when Win 9 is out.

When the Intel i12 8 cores get released.

Actually I think you will find they completely scraped Vista, developed it from the ground up and 'put back in' so to speak the added extras XP was missing. Very much like they did with Windows ME... Do you really think they just 'jumbled' ME about and released it as XP!

To the OP:
If you can get it free, get it... why not? (you will be kicking yourself later otherwise)

However, why bother with Winblows... Linux is sooooo much better!
