Windows 7 or XP?

I am stick with xp, is fast, stable and I run lots of programs. If you choose win7 you may have problems with the cracks for your software, or the soft itself if they're older versions.

i'd say windows 7 if you have enough memory. its pretty stable, haven't got the blue screen of death yet on it since i installed it first, and the desktop is cool. if you have lesser memory, go for xp, thats stable enough too, but not as good as win 7.

Yes. Unfortunately I run alot of programs that are Windows-based. Like Soldiworks, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Maya, etc. I also do alot of rendering, computer programming (software development). Lots of custom programs and scripts that I'm concerned may not function properly?
The laptop I am getting has 4gb of RAM. I love keeping multiple things open at once, and I like to keep the laptop running continously... so? Think thats good for 7?

dual boot win 7 and ubuntu 
Well, I think I am pretty committed to Windows 7 now. Just giving it a try and got my XP re-install disk just in case. Deciding between 32-bit and 64-bit. I don't play games just CAD, Photoshop, 3D rendering and intense computer programming.

I built a new pc and now running w7 for last 3 months --
I am running 32 bit ( 64 bit has compatibility problem)
it much slower than xp and I don't like it
cannot see any adavantage with w7 for blackhat activities
the reason I went to w7 was it is easyier to install and easyier to run up raid 1
(don't need a floppy to install raid 1)
On some of my other pc's i have reinstalled xp (from w7) - find I haves less problem with seonuke and
other blackhat software

You can probably but what's the point? You won't any benefits of 64-bit computing if your OS isn't 64-bit too.

Definitely 7. Not much better in my opinion, but support for xp is going to be phased out so might as well get with the new program now. Of course, ubuntu is a good option as well.

You are correct about that. Per my post, I mention that all of the hardware is exactly the same...
Here is what I do:
I have several hard drives (like 20+), pretty cheap if you purchase them online. Each hard drive has a different OS on it. I just switch the hard drives out whenever I need to move on to a different project.
I never mentioned XP 64-bit, however, I do find it to be surprisingly good... For some reason I thought I was the only person on earth who bothered to try it out, LOL...

I use CAD, Maya and Cinema 4D. While I have 32-bit Windows 7, 64-bit Windows 7, etc, I only do CAD and programming work on the XP (32-bit). I've found Windows 7 to be somewhat unreliable using such programs, plus with XP, I can open all the above programs and work on them at the same time (can't do that in Win 7, even 64-bit, without having everything slow way down).
