With how popular wordpress is, it seems like most people nowadays use wordpress for PBN's and not legitimate blogs (most who moved on to social media, medium or substack).

Do you think wordpress sites will be negatively penalised in the future?

I don't think so. Though there are some words in the air regarding this but there is no solid evidence of it.
 
WP is used by 40%+ of the websites globally,
it won't be a negative signal based on the current common usage & stats, not anytime soon

no, it is strong cms and many other successful agencies are using wordpress.

WordPress is widely used for all kinds of websites, not just PBNs. Search engines penalize low-quality or spammy content, not the platform itself. If your WordPress site provides valuable content and follows SEO best practices, it won’t face penalties. WordPress remains a trusted choice for legitimate blogs and businesses.
 
No is just like any other websites/platforms used to build websites

It can be a valid factor in my opinion. Custom coded sites really do well, but it is not for everyone. That route is expensive and is fir bloggers with long term thinking .
 
I don’t think WordPress itself will be penalized it’s just a tool. The real issue is how it’s used. If PBNs or spammy tactics dominate, those specific practices will get hit, not WordPress as a platform. Quality content will always win, no matter the CMS.

I thought the percent would be higher. What is the share of blogger.com here
 
I don't think so, this would damage half of the whole internet websites, it doesn't make sense
