I'd find revenge even more pointless as it would create an online blood feud, which is just ridicoulous. Your competitor could be your neighbour on the corner, but he can be a bastard online. Them Worlds suckz.

What i would suggest you is to be sure who sent you the email.

Here is what I would do : answer to his email saying something like "And what about this ?" with a link that does not really exist (such as www.mywebsite/anonymous.html)

Then check in your logs which IP did visit this webpage.

If you are lucky he did not use a proxy/VPN. Then you can try to locate the IP. If this IP is in the same place that your competitor, now you know who did this...
