Will the Dollar Collapse Soon?

some interesting stuff on the federal reserve, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dmPchuXIXQ

The dollar will not die nor will it tank. It is all hype to scare people to giving up their wealth (its what investors do to get you to sell low).

Gold and silver are a bubble. Tech is a bubble. The dollar will rise and the dollar will fall again.

At the same time too, if you believe, the heavens will fall and the Lord will come again...

If anything, a meteor will destroy the Earth before our civilization collapses from a fictious, fatansy economy we're built on.

Yeah, because a fiat currency has never failed ... oh wait.

It's a reserve currency. You can't compare it to others. And each currency failure is unique, again you can't compare it.

We can all speculate but nobody knows.

Reserve currency or not, it is still fiat currency. Please, if I'm wrong point me to some literature where I can read up on the differences.

Fiat currency only means the currency has no intrinsic value, no fixed value (gold standard). And is set up by an entity "promising" there is value behind it, without actually having to prove they have it.

And if you're talking about fractional-reserve banking, that should make you worry even more about the dollar collapsing because not only is The Fed handing out monopoly money to banks, but then the banks can then turn around and loan that out 10x. Out of thin air.

I do agree though, we can only speculate.

Scary shit though huh?

The thing that sucks about the internet is that you can find pretty much stuff to back up any theory...

Now the dollar is not on the gold standard anymore, and that has caused some problems. You see, if the price of gold would go up, then the dollar would lose its value. Now, what has been happening is that because of uncertainty, ppl put money into gold rather than buy up US$, but the price of gold does nothing to your ability to buy a loaf of bread.

What people do not understand is that the dollar will not "die" in the near future. The US has too much power to let that happen. They are too much of a big market to get off the dollar.

There has been a lot of speculation about the "World Currency", but while it may sound great in theory, there is always the problem of others bringing you down [such was the case with the EURO a couple times, most recently with Portugal, Spain, Ireland...].

The USD is here to stay. The government has no problem bailing out banks, so it wont have a problem taking action to help the dollar.

I would also like to note that if the dollar falls even more, there will be great opportunities as well: imagine getting a seller to buy goods in the US for u, ship it to Europe and you sell it at 25% markup ;)

Anyone knows European CPA companies ?:| got to start thinking about the euros..

Economy is going up. I think it will balance out soon.
I'm an Econ major studying macro-economics and ALOT of the "theories" in this thread are complete BS.

Currency is only a number in a computer somewhere. The government can and is "printing" money (idk who said that the US gov can't but they do...). This boosts the economy by devaluing the currency. By devaluing the currency it stimulates exports b/c it's cheaper for other economies to buy from us. Eventually this will boost the economy enough that the dollar will regain power. It's going to happen..

The dollar is NOT backed by gold/silver. This is the same for almost every other major currency out there since the 50's. The only thing the dollar is backed by is consumer confidence. If confidence in it goes down, then the exchange rate for it goes down. This thread is just bringing the confidence down more and therefor making you guys lose more money ;)

Of course it will go up eventually, but the question is: when?

Everything goes up and down. Stocks, bonds, economies, currencies.

The USD can still drop significantly and recover in 5, 10, 20 years down the road. You never know.

I remember when the USD/CAD pair was trading at 1.20, and now it is at 0.95, I'm hoping it will drop more because then I can get myself a nice house in the states for almost nothing on my dollar.

yes the dollar is going to fail. Sooner than you may think. Due to the never ending printing press and also the fact that debt holders are becoming nervous. China holdsthe lions share of US debt and have been quietly converting US bonds into tangible assets. They have converted about 8% so far. There is also talk of making some other currency the worlds reserve currency. There has been this talk off and on for decades. If they ever drop the dollar as WRC then the dollar will be abolutely worthless.

To those that say gold is a bubble silver is a bubble this is true but the bubble has not reached its peak yet. Here is some free investment advice- buy silver

Silver historically has always ended up being about 1/16th of the price of gold silver is relatively cheap right now. Get some get alot and when gold starts falling sharply sell your silver you will make a huge ROI.

Next- Tough economic times in the US has always been a golden time for IM. That time is now

@whenhowwho

But WHY does China hold so much $$? Its because they use it as leverage so that they can export their goods at artificially lower prices. So them getting rid of the $$$ they own probably wont happen any time soon cuz they would have already done it @ crisis hit.

World currency was in talks at the beginning of the crisis, it is not now. It will not fail.

A lot of the stuff in these posts are just rehashed blurbs from people that read something online, hear it on TV. A lot of the stuff u do read/hear on TV is "CATASTROPHIC" because it makes you read it/watch it = more revenue for them. Do some research b4 u take someones ideas and run with them

I agree that most of the things on TV is geared to be catastrophic and alot of it is perhaps total BS. Research is fairly easy and anyone can get the facts if they decide to take something they hear and find out about it.

It is best to be prepared for as many possible eventualities as possible so not to have all your eggs in one basket so to speak.

I can appreciate that everyone has their own opinion and we're all entitled to it, but it's downright comical that in the blink of an eye BHW and all it's inhabitants (or at least everyone is this thread) are suddenly global economic experts... complete with pie charts and youtube videos to back their points.

The dollar is gonna tank! The Euro is gonna crash! Gold is the next bubble!

It's all utter bull$hit. Everyone here that is taking a one-size-fits-all "line in the sand" approach to this argument has NO idea what they're talking about. You're talking about these things as though there is no connection between them... as though the dollar can crash and the Euro will thrive, or vice versa. As though gold can plummet in value and it won't have a massive ripple effect on the global economy.

And the youtube videos... really?!?! This is where are the truth and the answers lie? I thought truth and understanding were gained from real life experience, apparently I should have just sat my ass in front of youtube for the last 30 years to learn my lessons.

Keep this argument raging and keep that "run for your lives, the sky is falling" mentality as fresh and at the forefront of your thinking as possible... that way it's easier for me and all kinds of other intelligent people around the globe to keep gobbling up market share.

Go out and create value, provide service to your customers, do some fucking actual work and quit crying. There's your econ lesson.

The dollar has been slipping since 1971, when Nixon took the US off the Gold Standard. This changed our system from being backed by something to a currency (I.O.U.) to other countries.

Historically, whenever a country goes from valued money to a currency, the collapse is not far down the road. Add the national debt to China that they have purchased from us, and the devaluation of the dollar due to printing more money which leads to inflation, the USA should be falling into the Russian and German footsteps left before them when they had their economic collapse.

China owns almost all of America by controlling almost all of America's debt. The 401k's and IRA's and investment vehicles collapsing? Pension funds disappearing and nothing left in Social Security, which by the way will cost several billion dollars DAILY since it was promised to them.

Start building some sort of business with a recurring positive monthly cashflow guys, reliable residual income is the only way out. Think of it like the information age's version of monopoly. The more properties you control, the more you make.

Personally, I'm going to dive back into my books and finish up both of my LLC's and start promoting like crazy. Local business, expanded business, it's all part of the plan to sit back and collect checks, then REINVEST in bigger things like real estate, stock options, and commodities.

You can make $ when stocks and commodities go down too, for those who don't know. Even if a stock goes sideways, you can make money.

Don't give up, and let's all keep doing what we do to get to where we want to be :D

Sorry about the rant, but it's a subject I'm passionate about, and why we need to get these things to work for us.

China = Japan. I remember the days when everyone was talking about Japan taking over the economic world. Japan bought all kinds of properties in the US to prove that they're an economic force to reckon with. But what most of you don't realize is, US is protected by their "constitution". It's the best in the world to protect her country and citizens. I suggest you guys read it in it's whole entirety.

yeah, it is really a matter of worry that the us market as well as value dollar is continuously decreasing and there is no sign of changing the track. I don't know why the government or the invisible hand of market do not paying their concern on it.

I would worry about the Euro collapsing before the dollar because its pretty much guaranteed to happen

Don't worry, when the dollar collapse so would most other world currencies. There will be a new world order and The international monetary fund will issue the Bancor as the new reserve currency. This has been set in motion since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was created.

National security is for powerful economies to interact with each other. If you take the top 8 most powerful economies, it will have control over 90% of the world. We're at 7 billion people and projected to be at 9 billion by 2045. There isn't enough resources and a "world" currency will give national security and conrtol to the strongest economies when the smaller ones will live in proverty. The will slow the fertility growth of poorer nations (which is triple the rate of wealthy countries) to 1.8 per family. The population will actually start to decline by 2060.

Some powerful and wealthy people from across the globe are controlling us like puppets. Like religion use to control the masses, its now security and resources.
