I started a site for jquery plugin development and have created a few plugins of my own. I'm just wondering if it's worth distributing to all the sites out there like githubg, google code, jquery plugins, etc...

Other than potential views from users passing by, has anyone had experience with this increasing their google rank?

Do these sites offer links to the developers site?? if so make sure there ********!!

If they are then its worth it as there relevant backlinks from high PR sites!!

Yes all these sites are like wiki pages, so you can post anything including a link to the developer site. There are a bunch of them out there too and I have two plugins!

So far on my list is:

    google code
    github
    jquery plugins
    sourceforge

If anyone knows of more, please add to the list.

Well for anyone still interested or coming across this thread, a little update:

So I put up a couple of my jQuery plugins up on google code and from the last time I checked my google page rank it went up from a 0 to a 2.

Now it's hard to know if it was strictly google code that helped that much, but I can' think of all that much else that I did in that time, other than a few back links and some more content. My traffic otherwise has been pretty much the same.

I would say it definitely helped quite a bit.

Did you do any SEO else on that website? It's actually (really) shocking that making a single link from Google Code helps PR that much!

I can tell you exactly what I did:

    -I added ONE pr2 backlink
-A few blog comments, maybe like 10ish (mostlly on stackoverflow)
    -Some extra content
-Added a link on my twitter account(only 15 followers)

I don't have that much pointing to it to begin with, so I find it hard to believe that it would go up that much just from a pr2 link and some comment posts.

Maybe it didn't shoot it up 2 points but enough to bump me up from a 1 to a 2?

I haven't been checking my page rank everyday so it's hard to tell exactly, would need to do a more discrete test.

Or maybe it's just easy to get to a pr2 to begin with.
