Will a .com of a keyword help in ranking?

I am being offered a .com address of a very important keyword for my business. Right now, I don't rank anywhere and have to resort to selling through adwords as my service will surely get good conversions.

I wanted to know if I purchase this domain and use it to forward to my website, will it list high up in google search if people are searing for the same keyword? Or is there any other use of getting this domain?

EMD = Exact Match Domain, can help with SEO if your site is optimized properly, but you won't rank any higher just because of it.
If you just want to 301 it, I would be careful and check the history, backlink profile, traffic history and other metrics of the domain first though.
Make sure it is worth it.
 
Those doesn't rank like used to be. Now I don't think it really matters if its a EMD or not. Google has just stopped putting too much weight on keyword in domain. But if it comes with a nice blacklink profile then it might be helpful for your main site.
 
People are more likely to trust a .com than any other . domain.
 
It's good to have the .com, however there's not that much of a difference between .com and the rest of the tlds when it comes to ranking.
 
People are much similar with .com domains rather than other domains.
Due to the above statement, you may get some visitors to your site.
But it depends on your site & Backlinks quality,Domain metrics,Optimization of the site.

First of all, you know about the .com site metrics. If the .com site has spam, it will affect your main site. Try to avoid that kind of spam site.

Many old sites are banned by google due to the site harm with the google rules and regulations. So check the .com carefully before you buy it.

Check the .com site if the SEO is done or not, it must be aged and ranked well.
While you redirect to your main site, the number of visitors are increased and it helps to rank your site and shown your site in google at 1st page. Build more backlinks of your site will help to increase the site rank easily.
 
Don't look for the domain strategy,just get those domain status and whether it is properly ranked, before you buy.

I think you are now looking to rank your site,have a number of back links with high quality content related to your site.

Create a detail meta tags that will help you to get more traffic to your site.

Getting old domain is good to reach high ranking in google,by making clear and quality changes relevant to your niche.
