Wife has given up on Google

when i open your thread i had the impression that your wife fail to do seo and rank her site in google ahaha. epic thread :D

If you switch to 10 results per page you get much different results, but yes 100 results per page is horrible.

Hi Sniper -

Yeah - it occurs less with 10 - but it still happens. Had 4 the same and many 3 in a row
Given that Google is now often only showing 7 proper websites on page one that means some are getting 55-60% of page one - often with rubbish URL's

Try and search for videos, something like "sick submitter scheduler". Only cracks, discount offers and other crap. No thanks. Google is fucking up.

I actually prefer bing (not to mention its super sexy interface in my windows 7 phone) but I find myself in the opposite situation a majority of the time. I try to search something in bing, get bad results and end up in google.

But like most internet marketers i'm used to having to use all different search engines to get the results i'm looking for and can spot a MFA site from a mile away - unlike the average user.

I have no idea what Google is upto these days but some of the search results are a f$%king disaster. At times I switch to Yahoo, don't really like Bing that much.

All search engines have some shit issues. For example I have a small SEO firm website, pr 4 great back link profile pages of unique rich media content. There also other companies like me with pr 5 etc etc. And who is out ranking us for most "city internet marketing" or "city seo terms"? One page EMD micro niche sites in wordpress with a hand full of crap site wide back links. Also some really crappy youtube video. Good job Google, however same problem is found in Bing and Yahoo.

My wife is taking the kids out this weekend (I have to work) Going to Surrey to see her relatives. For those of you outside the UK this is the last Bank Holiday of Summer here and a reasonably big deal.
Anyway - wanted to see what there was in Surrey.
Opened her Ipad, went to google, tried a few search terms "entertainment in Surrey" and "kids activities in Surrey" etc.

The results were F&cking AWFUL

She isn't logged into webmaster or anything of the sort (her Ipad, she wouldn't know webmaster tools from a hole in the ground)
Top 31 results were from the same site "dayoutwiththekids dot co dot uk" Only ONE of these results had anything to do with Surrey. It included contact pages, maps of other parts of the country, events hundreds of miles away, "meet the staff" pages and all sorts of complete shit that no-one in their right mind would even remotely consider as being a decent set of results for the search term entered
Next 14 were from a single other site by the way "daysoutguide dot co dot uk" next 40+ were tripadvisor - again 95% of them had no relavency WHAT SO EVER to the search term entered

She said "Is there any way I can see more options here"
I said "Yes - try Yahoo or Bing"

We chatted for a while. I changed her default search engine and home page to Yahoo. Went into the kitchen - 5 minutes later while making a coffee I got the call from the living room

"Oh - these are much better - thanks"

Like the vast majority of people she has ZERO emotional attachment to Google (who the hell would?), and changing the default search engine in Safari browser took 20 seconds.

Wonder how often this is being repeated with googles clusterfuck results?

Why dont you post your story on Matt Cunts blog? See what he says, if anything.

Bing and yahoo have to invest in SEO or do something ! It is ridiculous how long time it take to index website !

Wow, those are some pretty damn horrible results... even for Google.

And they're talking about releasing a NEW Penguin? Maybe they should deal with the problems glaring them in the face first.

Specifically wanted stuff to do with the kids but....

Just for you.

With results set to 10 that site has the top 3. Third is it's contact page, which is just a clickable email address and a line about "any queries, contact us at the email address below"
Google seriously thinks that is better value than all the other competing sites.
If you want to contact a site admin or company then just go into the site and the link is normally somewhere on the root page. No need to give it it's own frikking listing.
Man these results are total $hit

Google is all about the money these days.

Any business that wants to stay in business has to be focused on making as much money as possible, that's why we are on this forum everyday as well.

But as long as their is a system, there is a way to manipulate to your advantage; until they build another system.

One day my wife was really angry to google, she wasn't able to find what she need. Since then, she's using bing.

I haven't used it myself for months. Yahoo has a much bigger index and Bing sorts things in an order I prefer so between them they get 90% of my queries and have done for almost a year.

Lol no offence mate, but if she wanted to find things to do for kids in surrey then she would add on "for kids" to the search... As in "Things to do for kids in Surrey"

Im not saying the results post penguin and panda are great, they're far from it but ya get what ya search for, if im looking for indoor marijuana seeds i don't go to google and type in "seeds"!

Not only that mate, you will have to get used to finding and contrasting facts on your own and not relying so much on movies for somewhat challenged people such as Austin Powers and Mr Bean.

Lol back at you.

If you read my OP you'd see that's exactly what I did. MIght be an idea to read the thread before writing stuff out of context. Original search query was very specific.
Like I don't know how to use a search engine...feck in hell
This video was made in response to a post halfway down the first page of this thread when someone suggested the keyword in the video would have been better - and it wasn't much better at all.

I hate it when I search google and find the first zillion results coming from the same website. What kind of diversity is this?

Yea it's almost impossible to find something what you need without using advanced operators. And even then you have to remove some sites like -"crapsite.com"
