Wife has given up on Google

How do you link build for another search engine when all you know is Google? Oh and I predicted this some years back but instead of learning to build links using another engine I just gave up and moved to paid traffic sources.

Anyone willing to give tips on this topic?

Make a better search engine, made 100% for user experience. No BS, no SEO'd sites and so on, and we will all be happy :)

Was searching for a WP theme today with the same results - all the affiliate sites that have the themes nicely arranged, e.q. a gallery, are way down the search results. The ones that rank are the ones that sell directly, and they are far from being convenient.

Someone should make a page or youtube video of this and make it go viral...bet if it was youtube it would get pulled pretty fast!

It's just not your wife. Many peopel can't see the point in the new quality search results from google. Penguin, anaconda and whatever zoo thingy going on, doesn't add quality to the search engine.

1) Blocking of torrent and mp3 sites - Google is blocking them and so it is limiting many people to go to commercial sites to purchase music or rip from youtube. Either way it is not good. Again if we think from this in more Black hat way. I do respect copyright and efforts but I can't afford to pay for 2-3 bucks per song in trance genre when I hear almost 40-50 good songs each month. So using search saves me money. Mind you, I do buy favorite song to support the artist, but it's not easy paying for every song in trance genre each month,

2) Forced local search - When I search for "wombat" or say " koala" google tries to understand indian perspective on these search terms and show me relevant pages which are low quality. If you go to google AU for these terms search quality is much better. So forcing local perspective for international terms is wrong approach. Just show the quality for such terms regardless of the locale.

3) More ads sneaked into results - It's quite hard to see which is result and which is ad, some ads even bypass ad block plus. I know many of you hate that but I am not your buyer so i have to enable it.

4) Low quality results for classic authors and old movies, animes, animation, novels etc. Most of the results are close but doesn't carry the information that we seek.

I am using duckduckgo for some of the search terms and it is working out for me so far.

believe or not, yahoo results are more accurate and relevant. Google is going big time for money, looks like Lerry page loves money:greddy2:

Hi,

Nice post. but I'm only seeing 1 result from "dayoutwiththekids dot co dot uk" for your keywords. But still you should post this on webmaster forum. Matt Cutts should read this.

Bing and DuckDuckGo are much better than google these days

If I log on from my PC with webmaster tools enabled I only get one?
So yes - it's not consistent. It isn't "just" with webmaster tools - and it's not "just" without.

Either way, it's pissing enough people off to be a real issue (even if it's not 100% of the people 100% of the time)

@ Synfig - Yes - I already use other search engines for torrent searches.

I usually use duckduckgo.com
I love the way it looks and the results it brings me are amazing.

To be honest though I don't mind Google. I really love many of their services.

lol, google will become worthless if they keep looking for emds instead of related authority content. i find wikitravel great if i want to visit any city in the world

I can't believe your wife would cheat on Google with a slut like Yahoo.

Marriage is one thing but the bond between a user and a search engine provider is sacred.

She should have searched for "things to do in surrey" ... better resullts ;):P

As far as I know Yahoo and Bing are using search algorithms which, initially, Google was using a couple of years ago. This could explain the fact their results seem to be much more accurate. The current algorithms that Google is using are pathetic, indeed.

Specifically wanted stuff to do with the kids but....

Just for you.

"Entertainment in Nottinghamshireingtoningham" is kind of a dumb search phrase.

Local business owners are WAY behind the curve in "Ye Olde Countrie" and that's not bad; it's good. So one aggressive business dominated one ambiguous kw to ridiculous excess. Says something about local business owners in the UK. It's the same algorithm; it's just not dumbed-down for people that haven't discovered dental hygiene yet. It means that there are economic opportunities for SEO's that can spot them when they are jumping up & down and waving red flags at them.

Maybe if they bellowed a rousing version of "God Save the Queen", someone might pay attention?

Lol - Dental hygiene we have, but we have no culture of orthodontristry (none what-so-ever)
You can go 6 months without seeing a kid wearing a brace. But hygiene? I'd check the stats. Less tooth decay than the US by quite a long way.

They might be crooked and gappy - but they're clean!

Yah I was too lazy to look up that word orthowhatchamacallitristy so I just said "dental hygiene". Guess that's why we have to go to school to learn "English" instead of "American", huh?

Sadly it's not about the "user" as long as their stocks are up they could care less.

I switched to Bing awhile ago for personal search, not only for the results but I like the pictures they put up.
