Think of it this way: When you apply for a job, your university or others recommend you. Similarly, backlinks are like recommendations from other websites linking to yours. The effectiveness of these recommendations depends on the site's authority and traffic.

Sure, what everyone is saying here is (or was) correct, but they are leaving out a lot of info

IE, Google pretty much ranks the same hundred or thousand websites for everything internet wide at this point

These websites they have for whatever reason chosen to still trust have millions of backlinks pointing at them already

Not only that, they get so much traffic they are going to be gaining more natural links than you could ever pay for or manually get on your own


So you have to ask yourself, how much time and/or money are you willing to invest into getting links when at the end of the day you are still going to be a million behind the sites Google is willing to rank? Do you really feel you are ever going to make a dent? Because in truth you wont

And even if you do it is no guarantee they will rank you

And even if they do rank you at one point there is no guarantee they will continue to rank you, that they won't just quit ranking all sites and go AI only, or that people will continue to use their shitty product


This is a dead game, don't waste time and money chasing links that may or may not matter, move on to something with an actual future

It’s like telling google, “yep, this content is trustworthy.” I’ve seen that when you have strong backlinks, your site can rank higher and get way more traffic. In the end, it’s all about building trust and showing your site is worth checking out.
 
What percent of these positive responses are coming from people who either

A) Earn money off the SEO industry by selling something SEO related

B) Just come here because its a habit and have been giving the same parroted responses of 'create quality content' and 'EEAT' and 'backlinks are like a trust signal' for a decade with absolutely no clue what is really working right now

I'll take over 90%


Could someone point to one or two examples of a site somewhat recently getting a jump 3 to 6 months after buying backlinks? Ya, there are a lot of people trying this, some still slip through the cracks now and then

But for each one of them you will find a thousand who have spent way more time and/or money than they would like to admit with little to (more likely) no results to show for it



The HCU was the end of this as an industry and if you can't admit it by now you need to take a long look in the mirror because its plain as day so what else are you missing

Totally agree—quality backlinks are like trust signals for Google. The more you have from solid sources, the better your chances of ranking and pulling in real traffic.

Yep, now "helpful" AI is allowed on the forum, real users are suffering. I'm not going to waste time looking through this drivel to find actual people who need advice.

A poor decision, that will destroy bhw UX and search traffic. Interestingly, watching how the forum is now being used, strongly correlates to how google must see this shit.
