Why I Hate Internet Marketing

As far as I know SEO/Online marketing services are not tangible materials and you can make a very good income from them (eg.: providing your services to offline businesses).

yep agreed. I.M. is just a tool for a real business. Most peope think maknig $1k month selling crap ebooks or c.p.a. is areal business. Poor B****'s With digital products not only do they have no perceived value..they are copied, cloned and uploaded far too easily.

A pure IM only exits if you scam newbies into the dream (i.e coaching, b*S* ecourse setc..)

what other industry are we at the mercy of G, Paypal, CPA companies etc? They can do as they wish basically and you have no legal foot to stand on.

+99.99% of people online seem to think lying, scamming, cheating is all part of online bizz.

I.M is ok for a bit of extra cash.....no way I'd ever go back to relying on it again. It's too unstable. G, paypal, ebay, others are in control.

Fastlane follower?

Become a producer and stop being a consumer, provide a solution to a problem of the masses and the money will come.

You are right to certain extend. E-books will never replace hard copies, that's for sure. But there are definitely markets where e-books are better and more profitable than hard copies.

Imagine the following situation:
1. You need a valuable piece of specific information NOW.
2. You search the internet to find out that this piece of information is NOT available for FREE.
3. The only way how to get the information NOW is to instantly download an e-book from a guy like me or you - maybe a real expert in certain niche.

Now what would you do? Would you rather buy an e-book from an expert, or be without an information that you really need soon and can not afford to wait for some miracle or a search for a hard-copy that may even not exist as the information you need is to specific to make a hard-copy publishing profitable?

Think about it for a while... I actually gave you a pretty good business model here.

I worked with a publisher who recently moved their entire business online. No more books, only ebooks. Now the publisher has negative cash flow and cannot pay their employees. The "online business" is a dream, not a reality.

Tell this to the guy who wrote the truth about abs and makes 14 Mil or more a year. :)

Not sure what u mean there, but I know that the 1% that the 99% er are bitching about are Producers and not consumers.

yeah i agree with many a factors of you and let me tell you you are a good writer...:D

I find the "physical products>>digital products" concept quite absurd. First of all because both have their place in today's world, and both are demanded by people, and as long the demand exists, so will the opportunity to profit. Economy 101.
Second, using the words "digital product" doesn't transmit the essence of what people need from them and why do they buy them. When you buy a digital product, you are buying CONTENT and INFORMATION, in its most pure, practical and easy-and-fast-to-get way possible. And guess what, practical, easy and fast is the direction to which technology advancements are taking us, as a society, not because we passively accept that, but because we WANT it.
This enough should be to prove your point wrong OP, without having to resort to start naming one by one the countless of individuals and corporations who are making a constant, whitehat killing with their "digital products" BUSINESSES.

1. That a website is a business.

Wrong, your website is a tool and not a business. It is one form
of media. Smart business people try to use ALL forms of media
print, direct mail, radio, etc.

Ofc a website is a tool, but it's also a business. What about the online lending companies who makes money borrowing money through their website? They use their website as the main source for their business. You make your website a business and with the help of internet marketing it can become very successful. It's like if you wanna start your own shoe selling company online, you create a nice looking website for costumers who wants to buy shoes online like converse, dr martens etc. Then you if you can get keywords ranking for these shoes, and then market the website online through the limitless opportunities of internet you can get great results. Then the website is the main source of your business, so no i don't think your website is "just a tool" it's also a business.

Umm, the problem is that people don't always realize in what kind of business they are in. If they would know that, it would make it a bit easier for them to actually make money. What do I mean? Few examples:

- If you are creating MNS's, you are basically a publisher. To be a publisher you need to be good at few things: massive content creation that people actually want to read, getting that content infront of eyeballs and selling adspace (can be adsense or private or whatever).
- If you are creating products, you have to be good at understanding human psychology and needs - what do people really need? What are people willing to pay for? And then you have to create value for them in a format that they want it. This business model requires that you can "get" people, can do research, have business acumen and are able to actually create the products and market them. Not everyone has these skillsets.
- If you want to sell stuff as an affiliate, you need to again understand what people want to buy and need to be great at converting people. Of course you must also be able to attract those people to your "store". Really, if you are in affiliate business, you are basically a store owner - you are just selling stuff that others have created to people you have attracted and taking a commission. This approach requires a different skill set compared to others mentioned above.

TL DR: People often "choose" business models that are not right for them.

And of course then there is the fact that people think that everyone wants to buy info products. People think so because they are computer savvy and "get them". The truth is that many people wont buy information products simply because they are not there yet. Digital products yes, but not information products.

So if you want to sell information products, then you should try to pick a target market that is actually willing to buy information.

Ploooh. I went on a bit of a ramble there. Sorry about that. Hopefully someone got something out of this message.

I know some Clickbank gurus they make money NOT going to seminars or other real life events.

Replies to the OP:

1. A website is not a business, in the sense that a home is not a business (simply the site for one). But it is so easy to port all the components of a complete business system into a website, that it becomes a moot issue to nitpick over whether it is a business or just a tool. It is simply a fact (not a myth) that many successful marketers are 100% web-based. If you put your entire business enterprise online, your website or web-based system is a business.

2. Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good. Free traffic may or may not be the best traffic, depending on conversions, relevance, etc. But it is simply a fact (not a myth) that many IMers make all of their money from SEO, BH, and other methods of generating free, converting traffic.

3. See the above, about the perfect versus the good. The market for physical goods may be a bigger or more durable one than digital only, but that does not change the fact (not a myth) that there is a digital market. Thus one can devote their energy towards digital only marketing.

The OP reads like a classic "poor dad" mentality rant from somebody who thinks the "S" quadrant is the only one that exists or is "real," because it's the only one they know. All active work, use money from pocket, til the end of time. It's harder than the gurus say, but it is possible to build a passive, online business system, and that's no myth.
