in some countries (or should I say : mostly) degree is a must when applying for a job.
that is why we should go to some university. remember, the higher education, the higher salary.
But if you want to be rich, you have to be an entrepeneur. And there is no school (formal) to be an entrepeneur. You gotta join BHW if your path is IM, lol.
 
I studied on Uni and i have MSc. degree.

And this is my opinion:
1. You'll get an degree :D. And employers like degrees.
2. You'll get a lot of new friends = new bussines connections.
3. And you'll get a university life :-)))).

The knowledge you'll get is not that much usefull.
 
Definitely enjoying Uni. I don't like to leave things incomplete anymore. I will aim for a 1st or a 2:1 minimum!

Most people see that IM and Web design and so on are SERVICES, I don't see it that way. The people who PROVIDE these services make alll the money, but the people who actually do the hard work don't get so much.

Example:

A worker in china, makes an mp3 player, he gets $0.0001 for each one he makes. The factory owner makes $0.50for each one he sells. The retailer makes $10(!!) for each one HE sells. (figures are guesses). The point I am trying to say, the person who does all the hard work gets nothing. Like in IM/Web Design, Get someone else to make it, and you sell it for way more. Then you will have MORE time to sell MORE, and lower your prices because you are able to sell more. So how ever much web design I know the guy above me is always making more than me, for less work. I will be that guy above me! ;)
 
If you can pay your own way I'd consider taking out a loan but investing it in gold/silver or mutual funds depending on the interest premium. nice little profit to invest in an IM project you've never had time to get to.

Be careful though!

Most big startups were created by university students. Maybe you just picked the wrong course/uni. You need a high tech uni that specializes in this stuff. It's like saying sex is shit after being raped in the ass by a monkey.

In one of his previous posts he stated that he went to Greenwich and that's one of the shittiest Universities in the country. This pretty much sums up the thread.
 
I don't know how it goes in Lodon, but in Holland it is normal when you got already the knowledge, you can skip classes or even whole years.
Beside that if you are with people with the same knowledge level, university the perfect environment to enrich knowledge, network and grow.

Hey, It's a lot better than many Uni's out there! My first year in uni I had 4 tutors and 2 classmates.

The Independent ranked Greenwich at 19 out of 135 for teaching quality, it's just the people who go there. Greenwich take in ANYONE!! It doesn't have a community feel like other universities, which is why I don't LOVE it. The teaching is very good, but WHAT they teach is NOT good.

PS. I never said I hated uni, just I find it pointless, as I am not learning much.

I see that I am not the only one that has been disappointed in going to college...
I am in year 2, marketing management, still, it's almost like they're age ago from how to make money online even tho they speak of it but never dare to say how to make it work.
usually they said that 'someone' will teach you in your business.
Still the only point that I am happy with going to college is that I made some friends with a brain.

Well to be honest anyone with some common sense that's serious about education and has done some research before hand will not go to Greenwich. It's not all about rankings, rankings are just rankings, but in general Greenwich usually ends up at the very end of ranking lists along with Universities like Kingston, Westminster, Middlesex, etc. which aren't any good either. In the overall rankings within The Guardian they are placed at number 99 out of 119 Universities. Depending on what you are actually going to Uni for, the reputation of the University is the most important factor. A 2.1 from somewhere like Queen Mary will be better than a 1st from Greenwich. :)

I'm not saying your stupid or anything, I know what it's like to be a slacker. :p
 
Just got a call from the local college, they want me to teach a social media marketing class after Christmas break. One time class at $30 per student, and I am an ASU drop out :)

No, I agree with you totally. The reasons behind me going to Greenwich over every other university was:
1. I had SHIIIT grades, because I WAS lazy.
2. I promised I would live in London, because of offline IM.
3. When I saw the University, it was amazing, it's a world heritage site.

And I would doubt that if I went to a decent uni, it would make any difference.. Read this:

4 years of computer science and i didn't learn a single thing about making websites. had to teach myself html after i graduated.

college was a fun experience though. was good times. :)
 
I'm 21 and I took first steps in web design also at ~10. :)
Most of you will say - you can't find a good job without a paper, that says u graduated.
I was chosen from 5 web developers (who graduated) for one big project.
I learned much more from books and online resources than any university could teach me.
So that rly doesn't mean anything. You just have to show what you can do.
 
Well i've finished Computer Sciences. And let me tell you something "University gives you the first step than you keep walking and exploring new stuff by yourself."
I mean you are not going there to learn, you are going there to study.
If they give you lectures on PHP about simple stuffs try to go advanced and explore new things.

When firstly our proffesors started to give us lectures on C++ i was thinking why in the hell we need C++ anymore. But to be honest every language that i've learned after that was much easier.

So i'm pro Uni as it will help a lot.

What if I already kow what I want to do, and I feel that university is hindering my progress for my lifes goals.

I am enjoying C#, it's new and I find it a good challenge.

What is interesting is that of all my friends who have completed their degree, none of them have used it for their careers.
