Not just somewhere, have read it many times. Plus I've seen so many wordpress websites ranking, specially for IM related niche.

Google loves it when you do good things, and kills your sites when you use it for backlinks.

a. security by obscurity
b. when you sell a website, wordpress isn't looking like anything that someone should pay for (because it's pretty simple to set it up on your own), so you hide it
c. PBN and such stuff

Google definitely does not have special settings for Wordpress.

Just look at all the duplicate content Google will index if you are not blocking tags, author archives, date archives, etc. You can make one post, and Google finds it 7 different ways.

The whole thing about Google loving Wordpress is just a big myth. There is nothing special about it. It is just easy to use for people with no web design skills.

^what (s)he said. Plus inline styles, crazy load times, incredibly resource intensive, security vulnerabilities, constant updating, and no one even tries to validate WP.

What's not to like?

Hidding your wordpress installation doesn't protect you from brute force attempts mate. Aslo considering WP is one the most used CMS it is aslo the most hacked. So people hide, or try to hide, their WP instal' for not be a target and to make it difficult for hackers. But there isn't need to look long to find out where to attack. As MafiaBoss said, there are still severals way to find out

that's why they don't ban them for their "not clean" link profile aka only sitewide links
