Exact match (EMD) means 'keyword.com' or 'keyword.net' etc.
These are often not available now for obvious reasons. So people then go for PMD (phrase match domain) e.g.
'keywordinfo.com' or 'keywordpro.com'...
As a phrase match it could also mean a prefix though, as well as a suffix like:
'newkeyword.com' or 'buykeyword.com'
Generally speaking a suffix is better than a prefix, as there is more SEO weight with using your keywords nearer the front. Also the shorter the extension the better, as longer URLs dilute the percentage of actual keyword letters. Always look for extensions that can provide long tail traffic. E.g. If you were looking for 'weightloss.com' then 'weightlossdiet.com' would be a good compromise as it's still a relevant keyword - just a long tail extension, containing both phrases.
You then get into the whole argument about wouldn't it be better to have longer domains with more keywords, but then you have to come back to the rule about shorter domains and less keywords will have more linking power for that phrase.
One important note is that EMDs or PMDs can fall foul of over optimisation much easier than non matched domains, by nature of the fact that they're already 'keyword-stuffed'.
