why does my homepage ranking disappear ?

I've had this happen and my best guess is that it's an over-optimization penalty of some sort. Your homepage is TOO relevant - you've built too many optimized links and/or optimized the on-page too much. This causes it to disappear from the rankings and being replaced by an inner page that's less optimized for that keyword (but still relevant enough to get some rank).
