I did scan it yesterday (with MalwareBytes), and it did find 2 files on partition C:/ but I removed them instantly. Unfortunately I don't remember how they were called, but I trust MB so I got rid of them instantly.

Normally when the PC is idling, there shouldn't be any loud noise, unless there's an automatic Windows update or something of that sort. Isn't it the fan though? That can get faulty too.

Anyway, if you think, it's the HDD, you can check the health of it easily running the CHKDSK command with the appropriate parameters from command line: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/chkdsk

Replace HDD to SSD , worst case is not the HDD but atleast u already have a SSD .

Yes, from the looks of it, the HDDs seem to be OK: "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems."

Cool... What other reasons are there then for the noise? I mean, when I'm working on the computer it makes noises, and not so much. But when it's idle then the noises are the loudest

It's difficult to estimate how long it lasts. My laptop lasted over an year with a scratching sound. However, the sound was intense when I just power it on but not noticeable after laptop starts. If your device constantly makes noise, then it could be problematic. I'd advise you to backup important docs, txt, projects etc. I usually keep a Google drive backup of as many files as I can. As I've dealt with many failed hard drives in the past, I can give you a few suggestions which may help you. The hard drive has higher chances of failure if the laptop suddenly shuts down. So, you should always maintain battery power or use a UPS. When the hard drive fails, the shut down time increases. The computers won't shut down until the header returns to a resting position. If the shut down or hibernation takes 2-5 mins, then your hard drives mostly fails within 3-5 days. 2 of my laptops have shut down took over 30 mins and I impatiently pressed the power button as I was sleepy. They never turned on. They had delayed shut down times for 3-4 days before the hard drive fried.

I'm on desktop computer, not laptop. But your information is valuable nonetheless.

Regarding time... I think the noises started less than a 1 month ago (I didn't actually track it), but the really intense (during nighttime) and frequent noises have started about a week ago (give or take 1-2 days). But if the HDD was about to fail wouldn't it make sense that it makes noises all the time instead of only when it's idle? That's what puzzles me. I can understand it failing (this happens quite often in computers), but a broken drive should fail no matter if it's idle or in use, doesn't it?

Anyway, I'll see tomorrow what I can do about it. I agree that $30 is not a lot for a backup drive but at the moment I simply don't have this money. I've been caught in a bad spot with my financial situation, which is why I decided to whine about my problem on this forum. I'm still hoping that it's not the HDD... or the CPU. Anything but these 2 and I'm good until January

yeah, I know I should buy one, but with what? I'm freaking broke at the moment...

As for CDI... oops! I had adblock + ghostery enabled and could not see the other links. I am now seeing them, though. Which one should I use (standard, shizuku, or Kurei Kei). I really have no idea what these things are anyway, so please do tell if it's not much trouble!

it's not that easy, man. My business folder alone is 350 GB large (I have lots of PLR content inside). I'll find a solution tomorrow. I just spoke to my cousin and apparently he's got a few large USB sticks... which he can't find at the moment lol. Oh well, bad luck never strikes alone...
