Why does it matter so much where you were born?

I really don't get how it can be so important as you cannot choose your birthplace,yet I see so many government officials needing to know where you were born,and people fighting over where they are from.

In my opinion its more important where you are know,then where you were in the past.

I'm sure I saw a post of yours repping Romania a while back, in fact repping is too light a word - it was a post about all the things the world wouldn't have without Romanians, maybe I'm mistaken.

In any case, I personally value history, my personal history and that of my ancestors quite a lot. I like being bi-racial, as I've had the privilege of growing up with two completely different cultures and that in and of itself has shaped who I am as a person.

It definitely varies from person to person; I have friends who were born outside of the UK, but hate being called anything but British, while likewise I have British friends who can't wait to leave Britain behind.
 
yea ekzaktly future is what matters to me,I dont recall the future because whats gone cannot come back.
 
They are just asking to determine if you are a citizen, that is all.

But I know what you are saying. Your heart is in the right place.

It has nothing to do with location issues. It just seems like it would make more sense for governments to use the location(s) a person has resided in the past 5 or 10 years on a passport instead of where that person was born.

I understand your argument. It's true that people like to discriminate. especially when there are a lot of cases coming from your country, you will most likely end up getting discriminated.

Me for example, has indonesian passport and was born here. Despite im making more money than (let's say) average europeans but still I need to provide everything to get european/south america visa. I need to go to the embassy of the country i want to go to 1-2 months prior to my travel date then I must give them my business registration license, bank account statement, and a lot of other ridiculous papers. This is just for a tourist visa. Oh also as an indonesian, i almost always have to go back to my country first before applying for another visa. Some countries don't allow me to apply for tourist visa if i apply it from outside indonesia.

It's a result of average Indonesian image in front of foreigners. 3rd world country, cheap labors, illegal immigrants, some fraudulent acts made by indonesians in the past, etc. etc. It is really discouraging. Why would anyone have to discriminate me just because what others have done in the past? However, i do understand their concern. I don't mind giving them all those papers as long as i get the visa (and yes, never had any failure)

You said that you have been living somewhere else in the past 5 or 10 years, maybe you can try to apply for another citizenship? There are a lot of things you have to take into consideration though (if you really want another citizenship)

IT gets easier, when you visit more countries and there are so many stamps from 6 continents. I dont think any visa officer or whatever will scrutinize u that much.

Or you can get a new passport from one these countries that accept dual citizenship.

You read it totally wrong,sorry. I meant that in general that the past 5 or 10 years is what governments should go on not where a person was born. I just dont like how the U.S. government likes to discriminate against people born elsewhere.

I was born in the USA but eligible for Irish citizenship,just need to file some paper work here and then get file with the foreign births office and I am officially citizen of Ireland.

I just don't like how the government here hates people from eastern europe,the middle east and parts of South America. For alot of those countries if a person wants to visit the U.S. for tourism they have to get a visa and the u.s. government asks them to many questions. And when they are entering U.S. they have to have their fingerprints scanned and picture taken.
 
I am from Ireland and that finger print scanner does play on your mind after awhile. The US government has my photo ID and fingerprints on file. If you came to ireland the customs would look at you and look at your passport to make sure it was not done in crayon and wave you in.

OMFG, I just thought it was for countries not in the VISA Waiver program.

It sucks that fingerprint changing surgery(basically skin grafts) isn't that advanced or practiced enough. I think its illegal in the U.S. for a doctor to do it,since a few years a doctor that was doing got deported. But if a plastic surgeon setup a practice in Cyrpus or another country with easy laws,they could make a ton of money.

It is important to have pride in the country you come from. The world needs to be competitive or it will not advance.

Tech companies have nothing to do with it.

A country has to make itself competitive in all aspects of business.

The countries with the most pride are the countries with wealth.

The people are what make the country, the government can only try to push people in the right direction.
 
If your speaking of the difficulties of visiting the US then one would do well to remember our past. 9-11 cast a really dark shadow on our country and the forces in government have tried to protect our homeland.

Other countries are under threat from real or perceived dangers in the international realm. The world has become a product of the times and some over anxious thinking.
 
9/11 was over 10 years ago,and the errors the cheapass airline companies made are fixed if I'm not mistaken. And there is equipment now that can detect explosives that work much better then outdated dogs that you need to replace every so many years.

There is no need to be a paranoid xenophobic anymore.

I get that this is the lounge, but you shouldn't need to create daily threads to discuss some new dumbass idea/conspiracy theory that has come into your head.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd love to discuss your ideas on other forums if you get where I'm coming from...
