Why does he crosslink his PBNs??

Wait for a while, Some threads will open in BHW saying that google has smashed my site. And complaining that PBN Over, SEO Over.
 
As someone mentioned earlier, unless there are more blatant footprints, its not TOO likely that the PBN is going to get "caught". A ton of websites link to each other that also happen to link to the same page (think about viral articles).
 
He either needs money fast to pay his bills so that he doesn't have to sell his wife as a hooker or he is just a noob
 
The goal is to push more PR and link juice through his PBN, but he's risking it. One thing I see far too often is people looking at what their competitors do and then try and replicate it. This leads to crappy SEO tactics being employed. Don't do it. Keep your PBN's closed, don't interlink. There's really no good that can come from that when the PBN gets exposed.
 
With this technique he can push his PBN stats, using his own PBN. Might not be a good idea for long term tho.
 
Honestly we'll never know unless the guy comes in here and explains why, but yeah if the sites look legit and are getting outside traffic, interlinking some (but not all) is not the most dangerous strategy. Could be worse. All depends on how he links them.

If it was combined with obvious footprints then it may look suspicious, but if they are hidden well and the links look in context and niche relevant, then from an algorithmic perspective, interlinking does not equal penalty or affiliation.

Popular news sites often link to each other, but Google doesn't think they are part of some mega PBN.

How good are his PBNs? If its working for him, then I cannot see to why he shouldn't be using it. As for the risk factor, its a matter of time but so long as he is earning good while he can, it will all be cool.
 
Well anything that works short term is worth going for if all you are interested in is the "rank and bank" thing.
