Why do you learn to code?

A lot of students in my country (Vietnam) would prefer to go to Tech universities than other ones. Many of them might love it but others don't. Some students just learn to program because it will give you a good salary after graduation. Moreover, in Vietnam, now people are bombarded with a lot of ads and media news showing that everyone should learn to program because the IT job market is hungry for new talents or you won't be successful in the future without knowing how to program.
I'd ask what is the reason why do you learn to code? To get a job or to use it for your business? Is that ok if some people can't code?

I started programming 15+ years ago because I learned programmers make a lot of money, lol. Today, I absolutely love it and I do it because it's fun and I can produce amazing things that people love.

Anything can be a good reason ^^. A lot of my brothers decide to study at a Tech University just because they think they will get a good salary

Over the years I have seen that people who just want big salary may become bad programmers because they are only motivated by money and after a while, money really doesn't motivate much. To be a good programmer you need passion and I have seen that a lot. Like with IM, not everyone can become a programmer and this is why we have so many low quality programmers.

Programmers don't make a lot of money
Only entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers.. and small businesses do..
Programming is extremely cheap nowadays.. thanks to outsourcing
The people who owns the IT outsourcing companies Don't even know programming himself lol...

I've always been obsessed with automating things. I started writing my first bot for a computer game when I was like 12.
Right now, I'm doing my masters in Computer Science. I do not plan to work as software developer, but I really enjoy coding as a hobby.

programming is fun.

Do u know where to download the whole ebooks series of any big CS major courses from any big schools? I don't mean the CS50 CSxxx, etc crash course, I mean the complete books package a student will learn from day 1 into the university to graduated from CS major after 4 years.

I love coding, too ^^ but I don't want to get a job in an outsourcing company (which there are a lot in Vietnam)
Besides, Kids in Vietnam have to follow their parents' advice. All my little cousins will go to a Tech university after they finish high school. Parents in Vietnam now think that only tech job will make their kids rich in the future, lol. They have no idea what sales and marketing are, also.

Dont worrry, Sooner or later the kids will realise that their majors dont suit theme. fact, 500/3500 students dropped out of college (University of Technology) after 4 years just because they dont like their major. 2000 (I made that up lol) will work in sales/ marketing companies ($200-$300 per month). Take me as an example, I chose my major just because the name sounds cool (Tourism and Hospitality Management)

. People especially parents and relatives in Vietnam always talk about things they dont know. "study that major you will make a lot of money, that guy make $xxx, you should study that major, your cousin, your neighbor's sons ....my blah blah."

Here is how I usually do it. Download at Libgen.io . For books recommendation, I usually try to see what Amazon recommended

I don't know where you could get these, but UC Davis lists the textbooks for the courses and you can get a list of the courses to study in order from their site.
