Why do we say that people work like a dog?

Good question. I don’t say that. I would rather say “work like a donkey”.

This probably relates to the American culture where the dog word is used often. Like yo dawg etc.
 
Dude it's crazy I've been thinking the same thing for 1 week, I can't sleep anymore. It's a real question, and I'm going crazy. I'll probably go see my doctor soon if I can't find an answer. Please help us :alien:
 
Maybe because a dog is as docile as a "worker" dunno...
 
I think because a lot of dogs were/are considered working animals, used for hunting, sheep herding, even police work nowadays, etc.

Not all of them are lazy pets.

Dogs bark and Men also bark all day when sitting next to a woman or married men bark with their wife when visiting market.
 
they are trying to say slave in a nicer way since your dog doesn't have that many rights and cant complain

In my country, that expression is the other way around. We say that "You are lazier than a dog" or "You have a better life than a dog"

There is a "stereotypical" expression (which is not stereotypical in fact, we must agree) that says "You work more than a Chinese". But we have to admit is kind of true. That culture completely wipe us work-wise.
 
Dogs are lazy and that is why there is a saying "Work like a dog", because most people are lazy.
Work like a fucking shark >>> Do sharks complain about Mondays ? No. They are up early biting stuff, chasing shit, being scary and reminding everyone around that they are a fucking shark.
 
Work like a dog means, seek approval and attention for everything from the master ;)

I am a cat person, so i work like cats :D
