Why do some people still use Black Hat SEO even though it’s risky?

Because it still works. Not long-term, but for short to mid plays it’s faster and cheaper. If you’re flipping sites, ranking for churn & burn offers, or testing niches—it makes sense.

I use black hat SEO sometimes because it gives quick results. I know it’s not safe for long-term sites, but for short projects, it works.

It all depends on the scope and the mindset behind the project. If it's a quick play, blackhat seo is king. Long term? It will depend on your risk appetite, but i wouldn't abuse it.

you got it, faster results. seo takes a lot more time than other traffic sources like social media or PPC and so it's natural that people are looking to speed up the ranking process. thats probably the main reason why black hat approach is so popular in seo and why you see pbn sellers making so much money on the marketplace here. with full white hat approach it can take months and sometimes even years to rank for your targeted keywords but with BH approach you can potentially get there X times faster

Because it works point blank period. Some people rather see fast cash come in from campaigns than wait months. Only downside to black hat is the lack of asset building.
Like an affiliate site made by white hat SEO would be more valuable and interesting to a buyer to purchase than a black hat site which requires rotations, new sites updated etc

What it is risky nowadays is to do White Hat SEO. 100x more effort and the same risks of being shut down by a stupid Helpful content update or the liking.
Nowadays BH SEO is the only way to go, and this is mostly why I've parked SEO a lot (I hate how BH becomes boring and repetitive AF, maybe for some guys it's amusing, not for me).

I think some people still use Black Hat SEO because it delivers fast results in the short term, and especially in highly competitive niches, it can feel like there’s no other way to stand out. The risk is high, but the reward can be just as big for those who don’t rely on a single domain or who work with a "burner site" mindset, sometimes the risk feels worth taking.

IMO, its basically a HIGH RISK - HIGH REWARD. Its a quick way to experiment on what works and what DOESNT work and get results right away. My best way to sum it up.

Building/paying for any link is considered BH as per Google guidelines,
Now, building links is not necessarily risky if you're doing it right,
You won't get penalized or negatively affected if you're building the right links,
If you're paying for guest posts within genuine authority niche-relevant websites, they'll do the work for years without any problem,
The same for PBNs, if you're getting clean ones, building genuinely looking websites with good content, design, & overall on-page, with low OBLs,
The major point is to focus in building "quality" links, these have little to no chance of getting detected as bad/low-quality links,
So, the risk involve more about leaning into "spam" rather than BH,
Most importantly, links from link farms, auto-generated on random websites, that won't work in the first place or will get you doomed anytime in the future,
The same goes for poorly built PBNs, the ones built using weak domains, poor content/design, not taking care of any of the website on-page,
As well as guest posts within small/low-authority or/and general websites, these could work, but could be taken down anytime,
These are less risky, many kept working for years despite the recent changes of the algo, but don't be surprised if they get doomed

Black Hat SEO can still make sense when there’s a clear short-term monetization strategy. Some use it to drive fast traffic, earn quickly, and move on before penalties hit. This works best when you own multiple sites and calculate risk vs reward carefully.
But if your goal is to build a long-term project on a single domain, it’s rarely worth it. You never know when Google will catch up, and recovery can be tough or impossible.

First of all , there is nothing like blackhat. Its all grey hat. In the eyes of google, if you ask for backlink , thats also blackhat. If you go by complete white hat seo, then you only create good content and wait for world to link to you. So,seo is blackhat.
Secondly, you are talking about dangerous seo which might hurt your rankings or tank rankings when there is new google update. I will suggest not to do these sort of things if your business is permanent.
If your website or business is for 2-3 years then do any kind of experiment. But if it is something which you want to do for 5-10 years, stay away from dangerous stuff. In my experience , its not worth the hassle. Good luck

Those who do badass blackhat SEO, use churn & burn websites and churn and burn domains. They will flood a website with unnatural links, which can many a times get a website ranked on search engines quickly and then finally get penalized. It is also known as “rank and bank SEO” because it makes a website rank so it can bank some revenue and then vanish.
