Why do people do this?

Hi, I have seen this done a lot recently. Why do people only pace one link per page back to their site? Like these wiki sites where you can create a new page... they only place one link. I know that the more links on a page, the less their power, but does it really effect that much that you should only place one link?

I place 3 on average on a single page, is this bad? (to different parts of the site)

The general thought is one link from the same url from one page of the domain because if Google see the same URL twice then it doesn't count that additional link. So you could in theory place to links on the same page to two different pages of your website and have them still count.

Because they haven't thought it through very well. Statistically you want to stuff as many links as is reasonably possible into a backlink page in order to siphon off as much link juice as possible.

If the page already has 15 links on it and you add 1 more, then you are getting 1/16 of the link juice from that page to your site. If you add 15 links on the page (all to different pages of your own, preferably on different domains), then all of a sudden you are sucking off 15/30 (ie. 50%) of the link juice from that page. The link juice going to each of your own pages is slightly less, but overall you are sucking out more link juice into your own network. You are also getting added anchor text juice by having more links going to your pages with good anchor text.

Obviously this doesn't work in every situation where you are limited in the number of links you can get, and if you go overboard with the link stuffing you're just going to make it look spammy.

So you think it is wrong for me to build web 2.0 link wheels to each of my posts, with one link in each only? I did this so I get one good backlink from each web 2.0 and not 5 weak backlinks. More work on my end, but I think it is better.

I think if you´re the only one placing links it doesn´t matter, because your getting full link juice either way ;)

So I am wasting time building a new link wheel for every post?

No. I mean, that if you´re the only one whose linking on the site, you will get almost the same result if you link once or if you put 3 links on it to the same site. If you link to 3 different sites however, each site will only get 33,33% of it. I hope that was understandable now ;)

I understand, instead of getting many weak links, I get fewer strong links, which equals to the same effect :). Guess it looks less spammy with just one backlink per page, so I will keep working like that.

I wouldn´t do it one way all the time. As everywhere, I think diversity cannot harm and maybe google will like it more, don´t have a case study on it however ;)

I know, I just read it on a bunch of places that link wheels should be done that way, so i just went with the flow but it always seemed strange to me. I think in the end it doesn't matter.:nana:

There are a lot of parasite posts on wikis, they will delete your post and add there one link..
