I walked away from my channel for a few months and when I did I noticed that my subscriber count started to really pick up some pace. About 300 new subscribers / month (which was a lot for my little channel.)

I decided to start uploading again and now, for some reason, my more successful videos took a nose dive.

I have a video that went from 8,000 views / month to 900 views per month. Another one went from 2,000 views per month to 100 views per month. Why is this happening?

Ever since I started uploading videos again, my subscribers went from 300 / month to 5 / month.

what is your niche? My engagement has plummeted on Instagram lately as-well, I think it's the new updates lately banning new words and hashtags across all platforms.

That's a chance of losing good ranking because poor quality of video content, i guess. [SORRY]
The algorithm says, your videos will rank well depend on some factors, and most important one is WATCH TIME.
If YouTube promotes your video to the top ranking already, and visitors just leave at just less than One minute watch time, then your video ranking will drop and your overall channel will affect too.
My experience is making good quality videos and it ranks very very fast. You may want to see my older thread here.

Too many factors. One might be a new entrant into the space, dominating your niche.

This always happens. When you upload a new video, this new video affects the old videos. If your video get views from suggested videos or keyword, new videos that you've uploaded cause old videos to drop. Did you use very similar title for your new videos?

I see this happen very often lately. Especially quality channels that provide good content are getting outranked and outsmarted by channels that are just total shit. It seems like the algorythm made some big changes especially in 2019. I suffered from this as well sadly. I have an Youtube Account that used to generate around 10-20k Subs in a month, and my channel also plummeted to around 2-3K Subs per month now. The niche has always been the same and the content was uploaded regulary (like 4-6 times per week, sometimes even every day).

I've noticed that there were channels in my niche that seem to have appeared overnight and rank incredibly well (like 300k views in a day), while i get like 1k or 2k on a video. I still cannot understand why these videos are ranking so well while mine are not ranking at all. Sometimes i literally just copy paste their strategies but it seems like i am still missing out on something, cause it doesn't have any or minimal effect on my views.
