Why are impressions dropping in Google Search Console while Bing clicks are increasing?

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed something strange recently — my impressions in Google Search Console have dropped significantly, even though my clicks and traffic from Bing are performing really well.

I haven’t made any major changes to my website structure, content, or backlinks, and my pages are still indexed. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Could this be due to a Google algorithm update, a ranking filter, or maybe a CTR or keyword shift?
Any insights or suggestions on what to check would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Google and Bing use completely different algorithms and ranking signals, so it’s common to see performance vary between the two. You might simply be ranking higher on Bing while dropping on Google. Basically, you can have excellent rankings on Bing but perform poorly on Google (or vice versa), depending on how each search engine interprets your site’s content and backlinks

Thanks a lot for the explanation!
That makes sense — I understand now that both search engines interpret things differently.

Could you please suggest what kind of improvements or changes I should focus on to recover my Google impressions and rankings?
Also, how long does it usually take to start seeing results after making those changes?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, it can happen when Google’s algorithm updates or search trends change, while Bing keeps showing your pages for the same keywords.

Check if competitors published new content recently. A few strong articles can push your impressions down even if your site is fine.

Hey amineid, I’ve seen this happen too. Could be a Google algorithm tweak CTR changes or keyword shifts. Check your impressions by query and page trends it usually gives clues.

Bing is not on ai steroids yet, unlike Google search
One will need new traffic channels to make ordinary information site receive traffic

At times, this might occur even if the website remains unchanged. A rapid review of your major search queries and their corresponding average positions most of the time reveals the area where visibility decreased.

If Bing remains unchanged but Google impressions have fallen, it is very likely that there has only been a change in ranking or an update has started rolling out. Usually, it gets back to normal on its own after Google completes the rearranging of its results.

it means google has penalized your site in one way or another. Start a new site and/or try to fix the current one. Not much to do at this point

Google's search traffic is very unstable because the algorithm is tweaked every now and then, but Bing is not like that.

Also, it's pretty easier to rank in Bing than Google.

Google impressions can drop even while Bing clicks rise because both engines use different ranking systems and may react differently to updates.
Often Google shifts intent or applies a core update, reducing your visibility, while Bing continues to rank your pages strongly.
Checking GSC queries and recent Google update dates usually reveals the cause.
