Why are forums dying?

Or better yet, why are they dead?

I see only BHW has survived, and I don't know how much longer it will last.

In my opinion, nothing compares to a forum. A forum feels like a local bar where you sit, chat, tell stories, and learn from others.

I can't get that feeling or knowledge from Reddit, social apps, or Quora. You don't know the person responding to you. Members in forums feel like real people, while on those apps, they seem like NPCs. You see them once and never again. I can't understand why forums are dying one by one. Nothing can truly replace them, but somehow, it did. What am I missing?

DMCA, legal notices, Lack of support, No donations = Forum dead.
High hosting cost, email servers.
Apart from that heavy DDOS

I think we've seen a glimmer of hope in recent months. People seem to be turning more and more to communities, including forums rather than social networks.

Forums offer specialized discussion with people with similar interests... without the gamification, and engagement-driven algorithms aimed at wringing dollars out of your eyeballs. Unfortunately, that social media experience is purposefully addicting, even if it adds no value or even subtracts value from your life.

I, for one, hope forums continue to function as a meeting-place on the internet.

Apart from a select few sites, times are changing and Forums and falling out of favour for the likes of Discord, which doesn't have the strict moderation and restrictions that Forums have. It slows communicating down...

Not many intelligent guys want to moderate a forum for free.
BHW has found good mods and they can balance freedom of speech and legality well enough.
If they were bad, they would probably over-restrict and make it a generic whitehat forum.
Back when the internet was ignored by the law enforcement, having a forum was very easy, you didn't need to be intelligent. I had a forum too at some point, but I closed it because there were many questionable things being posted daily and only those with a good capital of knowledge can manage what for most noobs is uncertainty.

But it's 100000 subforums on a forum. It's junk subforums aggregator where nobody knows nobody. It's chaos in purest form.

I've been thinking about reddit and others for a few days. They are truly incredibly bad, both in terms of interface and otherwise. It's incredible how people continue to use them. So I have an idea to create something, maybe I can bring it to life.

Reddit is where cluster b loves to spend their time.
Features:
- full anonymity on level of darknet
- pure nonsense acceptable
- being extremely offensive / passive aggressive is okay as new accounts are available at discounts
- tons of drug related / criminal / religion / politics subreddits
- extreme flame wars, some people jump out of window due to stress caused by discussion there
- if you want to do something terrible, there are subreddits where people will push you to do that

What else do I say? Is this allowed here? Hell no, maybe that's the reason we don't have influx of retards from image boards like 4...

But I noticed that reddit crowd is easy to control cause if you say left, they say left too. If you say right, they say right too.

Reddit, Quora, and FB Groups are the largest sites in the world.

The idea of a "forum" has just evolved.

Although I despise Reddit like power washing my roof in the Florida heat in the summer, they do have decent recipes in some sub Reddits.

The balance of what I have seen on there is bottom of the barrel worthy.

Wow, a month ago I read that it's dying, happy to see it's doing good. I am mostly a lurker around here, but the knowledge I've gained can't compare to anywhere else and I do appreciate it quite a bit.

In early days of internet the ppl were spread out into smaller groups. Now most of the traffic is the few large social sites, therefore most of the forums died out.

And all people stopped sending e-mail... referral traffic is part of the past. I'm the last person on earth browsing sites different than large social media platforms.
