Why am I getting Instagram restrictions for no reason?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve received a few Instagram restrictions (DMs, links, etc.), so I assumed I was simply doing too many actions. Because of that, I’ve drastically reduced my activity over the last few days and barely use the account now.

Today, I literally just opened someone’s followers list while chatting with a prospect and immediately got a restriction saying I couldn’t view followers for a month because my activity might be associated with scams or trying to take money from people. I appealed it, and the restriction was removed almost immediately.

This got me wondering if Instagram is analyzing the content of DMs rather than just user actions. My conversations with prospects are fairly long, and toward the end I naturally discuss my coaching offer, pricing, discounts, and ask for their email so I can send more details. Everything is legitimate, there are no links, bots, automation, or third-party tools involved.

Has anyone seen evidence that Instagram’s spam detection looks at DM content, or is this more likely just an account trust issue from previous restrictions? Any insights would be appreciated.

It is more likely an account trust issue than Instagram reading your DMs Once an account gets a few restrictions their system tends to become more sensitive Even normal actions can trigger temporary limits until the account builds trust again
 
It's probably a mix of account history, behavior, reports, and possibly DM content too. Since you've had recent restrictions, your account is likely under more scrutiny.
 
If Instagram really thought you were scamming people, I doubt the restriction would've been lifted that quickly.

It sounds more like the system is already a bit suspicious of the account because of the previous restrictions, so now even normal actions are getting flagged.

You'd just keep an eye on it over the next couple of weeks. If you keep getting random warnings despite barely doing anything, that's probably a trust issue.
 
Since your account got flagged from the earlier restrictions, probably Instagram is now being extra sensitive to your activity.

instagram absolutely scans sales keywords in DMs (pricing, discount, email) combined with a low account trust score, so you should vary your chat scripts using synonyms and direct prospects to your bio link to evade AI flags.
 
It is a mix of things like activity pattern and account trust rather than just DM content. If account has been flagged in the past then normal activities can trigger temporary restrictions.
 
Since your appeal was approved almost immediately then it sounds more like an automated false positive than a manual action. Once an account has been restricted a few times then it may become more sensitive to certain activity patterns. I would keep your conversations natural, avoid sending too many similar messages and give the account a bit of time to rebuild its trust.
 
Opening your follower list while chatting with a potential customer can be flagged by algorithms as "data scraping" or bot use, especially when combined with the frequency of lengthy messages beforehand.

Instagrams systems seem to be very sensitive after any previous restriction even normal activity can sometimes trigger reviews until the account builds more trust again.
 
It sounds like the account history is playing a bigger role here sometimes automated systems react to patterns rather than the actual intention behind the activity
 
Likely both Instagram's spam models do scan DM content/keywords payment, pricing, "send your email" patterns are common flags, but a history of recent restrictions also lowers your account's trust score, making you more sensitive to triggers.

Could be several reasons - most probable one is that your offer is flagged by IG AI for scam (people doing similar offers as you have scammed so you got flagged as well).

Could also be related to the age and set-up of the IG account though this is very unlikely.
