i'm really digging this idea. got a good domain and there happens to be a sign shop right next to my house 
my city permits signs to be in place from friday night until sunday night so i have to wait though :/

nice way, but this is actually illegal. you may not post some random poster on a wall, just aswell you can make some nice graffitie with you site name on it
its not always illegal. you have to check with your local laws. my city says i can put signs around on public property from friday night to sunday morning

what free sign up site should i use though? most of the ones i can find for the $5 sign ups are like webcams and p0rn stuff. anyone know of a good reputable dating site?

so i signed up with singlesnet*com to start out and went to the sign shop next to my house...
bad news x2!
i talked to the guy on aim and he was saying that i cant do a redirect so i think i'll have to do it some other way (since they are fully aware of blackhaters)
i also went to the sign shop and found signs ranging from $40-60!!! i thought it would be something like $15
i'm still going to look around for more options :/

This method isn't fully blackhat, so if you happen to do a bit of explaining and he still doesn't go for it then I would suggest becoming an affiliate for another dating site, or better yet, a CPA site with dating offers as stated in earlier posts.
And as for the signs, a lot of those places are rip-offs. It would be a very good idea to shop around.
I bet john smith @ 123main st is getting a ton of bills right now

Long time lurker. First time poster!
First off as..as far as using street signs AKA bandit signs; they are highly illegal in most places in the US. There is even an organization dedicated to stopping their use: h**p://causs.org.
Any ways If you are going to do this; hire someone to set them out after 5pm Friday and pick them up Sunday night. Code enforcement officers don't work weekends!.
Focus placing signs at high traffic areas, traffic bottlenecks, places where people congregate (shopping malls, movie theaters, retail stores, etc).
Use property appraiser records to find homeowners who own houses near busy streets. Offer, to pay a nominal monthly fee to hang your sign on their property.
Approach pizza delivery places and other businesses that regularly give out coupons in your area. Offer, to print coupons with yours and their message, on the coupons, in exchange for them distributing them to their customers.
Get flyers made and placed at communal mailboxes.
Have small, gaudy, florescent stickers made and placed at gas station pumps, restaurant drive throughs.
Research, whom comes in contact with your target demographic. Then approach them and set up a profit sharing arrangement for every lead they send your way

Have not really seen these ads anywhere in the UK, I will give this a go. I haven't got a CPA account yet but have found some dating site promotions which look interesting, hopefully it will be viable with my method of promotion.

Offline marketing is very often left out when people are considering ways to get traffic to their sites. Personally, I really couldn't be arsed going around putting up flyers but then I'm a lazy bastard anyway so that's probably got something to do with it too.
Sometimes it is counter productive to think too much about things though. There's a time and a place for thinking outside the box and being clever, but other times just try the easy ways.
How about this method for instance.
Put an ad in the newspaper!!!!
Sure it's not cheap but I just did a little research ( about 10 secs on Google) and I can see that if I stayed in the US the options would be pretty attractive.
I saw a company advertise a "special" of "your ad in 1 Million papers for $180.00." Surely worth a look at least. I can't vouch for them as I am in the UK but I can tell you that done correctly this works. Just a simple web address ad. It works in the UK and I may just try it in the US too on some of my cpa offers after seeing these prices.
Another package I see they do is a "1 Million Circulation Special Where YOU Select The Cities". $249.00
Yes it's money but it's not time...which in my opinion is much more valuable. It may or may not work for you but don't discount it without giving it a look. Just use Google for a search term like "ad in us newspapers" (which is what I did) and see where it takes you.
Just my tuppence worth.

so I decided to try this out having read this and a few similar posts around the forum.
I dug up one of my old parking tickets. They are yellow in my city. I designed a replica of it, changing the text to some funny/smart text that would draw the person's attention (you've been charged with blah blah and now you have to visit blah blah). I printed it out b/w on cheap yellow paper (i think it turned out to be 4 tickets per page) and cut to size.
come Friday night downtown...the swarming of clubbers et al
oh my
have not heard from the city. hopefully i will not. then again, all my flyer has is a domain name registered out of NA under a fake name...
