That isn't actually whitehat.

Proper whitehat link building is :

When you create high quality content on your site which is then syndicated around the web by other web masters, bookmarked by people... etc... Can't be arsed to explain it as I'm tired.

There is no such thing as white hat... Only links that actually work

Thanks to all. But I need more appropriate guideline.:)

Do quality link building (this is the technique)
you should do content marketing
video marketing
social media marketing that's it.

Quality Content, Quality Inbound Links, BackLink Generation

The most effective white hat technique is proper keyword research.

I disagree. You can do all the keyword research you want, but if you still make bad pages or websites, and dont do proper on-site SEO, engage the user with video and social media, along with building good backlinks without mega-blasting shortcuts... you wont get far.

Review and optimize the following

URL (check length and add keywords)
Meta description (make it appealing, stand out in the SERPS)
Heading tags (add keywords)
Images (add alt tags)
Frames and flash (avoid)
Page content (text rich, keyword rich)

Then these:
Have a robot.txt file
Submit your sitemap to Google, Bing, Yahoo
Use microformats (I don't but I heard its good)

This is just a start to optimize your website. Then you have to write great content or provide useful stuff so that people naturally link back to your site and a bit of PPC.. That's all pretty white hat I think. There are surely other things but this is a starting point. Be careful not to stuff too many keywords also.

The only white hat technique I can think of is write excellent content > people will love your content > And they will automatically link to you. I think Matt Cutt said something like this ;)

the best advice I can give you regarding white hat techniques is this: form follows function.

write useable, engaging, unique, or if you want - controversial and most of all, mesmerizing content for your readers.

content can mean articles, videos, products, infographics, downloadables, promos, contests, events - anything that will have value to your target audience. remember that word: VALUE. it's useless to have a website in the first place if you're just going to fill it in with crap content. think of your website as some kind of a book you are writing. the more engaging your book's content is, the more readers are going to read it and even promote it for your via word of mouth or social media.

when you're done with your content, think of the most effective and efficient way on how you can distribute/promote it and then execute it to build your audience. email your friends, family, co-workers, employees, and everyone you know. send text messages. tweet and post status updates on your facebook page. this will get you a bit of traction.

once you have your solid audience, learn on-page SEO (like the one GorigioB suggested). if you don't have the time, ask a friend to help you out or pay someone to do on-page SEO for you.

now you have good content + SEO.

lather, rinse, repeat until you get success.

Going white hat is going for the long haul. It be very hard but if you play your cards right, you'll surely be Google update-proof.

Hope this helps. :)

Doing the SEO the right way is the only white hat technique. If one i doing spamming with the blog commenting and forum posting or by any other means it is black hat.Doing things just the way Google has said it white hat technique.

Like other said, do quality site that people will share on social networks...
but over time start slowly working on SEO.

white hat seo means doing SEO accoring to google rules..use unique, quality content, proper meta tags, meta description. and most important offpage seo, submission, create backlink in a proper manner/in a limit. excess of submission is dangerous..follow the rules and you will get high PR and traffic

I believe white SEO is a myth. Any techniques used to manipulate the SE ranking goes against Google's guidelines.

Yes that was correct. You can try it now and it should work ok now.

White hat techniques is in which falls under the search engine guidelines. anything against is Black hat.
