I do a lot of business with odesk. Don't pay for the job up front. Pay in milestones as work is completed. You'll be better protected.

Ive had a few ebooks created and its quite an adventure. Either you spend $300-$700 for your 50 page ebook and get someone in the US to do it or you can try someone overseas ($75-$100) but understand that you will need to do a re-write on your ebook if you do this. Ive had 4 ebooks written by people that speak english as their second language and the grammer and sentance structure is not great.

Also, this depends on your topic. Is it a topic that requires that the writer have a specific background or can the topic just be researched.

Here is what I suggest if your on a tight budget.

1- Place an ad on craigs-list in the philipines jobs section under writers. I say the philipines because you will get the biggest bang for your buck in that country and you will get a lot of replies from people with masters degrees and such that have the skills your looking for.
2- Post a small test project and be specific on what your looking for (experience, background, timeline, bla bla bla...
3- Ask for samples of their work and a resume in their reply.
4- Interview them on skype to get an idea of their ability to create actual sentances.
5- Choose 2-4 people for the test project. This could be a 500 word article on your topic. Maybe you can use the articles on one of your web sites. You will need to pay them for the test but only a few bucks.
6- Review the articles and pick the person you like the most to do your ebook.

I would say that you can get a 50 page ebook for $50-$75 from someone in the philipines. Ive even had 2-3 people write my ebook for me and I take them all and combine them to make one good ebook out of the 3.
