Which signal is most important for website ranking?

I heard that google's top three ranking signals are,

1. Content
2. Backlinks
3. Rankbrain

but, i don't know which one is important in SEO.

They are all equally important for SEO, but since Rankbrain is harder to understand it's usually said that quality content + effective link building is a good way to reach the TOP of search results.
 
I think that there's no universal answer to that question. (Your captain obvious - ba dum tss)

From our experience it depends on competition:

In blue oceans you can rank just with great in-depth content. I saw numerous proofs of this.

But in highly competitive niches in-depth content is never enough. I create a website with rich architecture and extensive articles. But nothing happens without links.
 
RankBrain isn't a signal. It's yet another algorithm. Algorithms process signals.

Everything you mentioned has it's place.

If you focus on only one of those things, you will fail.
 
On-Page-Off-Page-Social Media Traffic to gain traffic while its ranking.
 
User retention and bounce rate are important signals : how much time users stay on your site before to leave, that's says to google that your site deserve to rank high because is something interesting for visitors - or just suck because visitors leaves too soon

RankBrain is google's newest "Smart" AI and IT'S results are the factor, not the algorithm itself.

Backlinks is still number one. Rankbrain is climbing in importance, because once the backlinks initially rank you, it's the quality of the UX that keeps you ranked. Rankbrain's algo measures that and the relevance of the content.
 
Unless RANKBRAIN morphs into the Terminator movies' SKYNET, Google will always be dependent on LINKS
 
Backlinks is the most important still, forget what the whiter-than-white SEO bullshitters spout. I have an aged PBN I set up years ago that is filled with latin text that ranks at number one for a non-competitive two word search. The keywords are in the page title but that is all. Without links that page would not rank at all. User metrics would could for shite on it either as I can't imagine people will even click through with latin text in the SERP snippet ;)
 
With over 200-500 and 10,000 sub-signals used in the ranking factor, it's difficult to say which is the dominant factor that can beat the rest.
But based on various tests, trial and error, should your site's content is decent, not copied, readable, informative, etc... the only factor that can be used to try manipulate your ranking to go higher would be backlinks.
The higher the quality of the backlinks, and the more of these backlinks pointing back to your site, the higher your site will rank for that particular keyword.
 
If you are posting better content on your site, the chance of getting backlinks naturally will be higher. If more backlinks needed, you can build it by checking the relevancy and spam values for good results.

All factors are equally important. Google would be too stupid if he made one fact important.

RankBrain is not a factor or a signal.

A signal/factor is for example presence of the keyword in URL or H1 tag. That's a signal.

RankBrain is a separate algorithm implemented to the whole picture of ranking search results. Just like PageRank for example.
 
I agree with the others.
Backlinks will help you to go up in the rankings. The next step is to have a good content and on page seo.
I have read a new backlinko article and I think it could be interesting for you. It says that to stay on the first page you have to satisfy the user intent. So.. check the websites on the first positions( because they did it right), do it too.. but better - you may create one article of those who are ranking and be sure that users find what are they searching for.

content is always a best key but if you have bst backlink signals then its fruitful for to rank up
 
need good on-page SEO and off page SEO properly. then make strong and niche relevant backlinks with natural keywords. the social signal also important for traffic.
