Im suprised that facebook is still basically #1 and they are the oldest.. Usually what I've seen is the longer they are around, the more things they come out with to stop IM.. well certain forms of it. Is facebook really still easily better then the rest?

Pinterest is good for fashion.
LinkedIn is good for B2B.
Ultimately, you should be signed-up to Facebook and Twitter as they're the two most popular. Google+ is also great for SEO last time I checked.

I personally think Facebook is the best social media website out there. You can play games, chat with friends, advertise, start your own groups/fan pages/business pages, and so much more. All these other social media sites do not allow that. Facebook is a no brainer.

Facebook and Instagram are good ones to start with and there's already cross-linking of the accounts built-in. How you'll use them really depends on if your social media purpose is business or personal.
