Which content format keeps readers on a blog longer?

On my sites, the posts that hold attention best are the ones that solve a single problem cleanly. Format matters less than giving the reader exactly what they came for without fluff.

As an aside, format matters but consider topic relevance since that's what get retention. Although yeah, a pleasing enough blog with a reasonably meaningful topic (usually current affairs or research breakthroughs, for example) would do wonders keeping readers on for longer.
That said and for all else, long guides and step-by-step tutorials would usually keep readers the longest if the topic has real search intent. Lists get clicks, but people bounce fast so there's that.

From my tests, long-form guides and step-by-step tutorials usually keep visitors engaged the longest because they solve a full problem in one place. List posts also perform well, but mostly for quick scanning rather than deep engagement. In general, the content that wins is whatever matches search intent the closest, if someone wants a solution, detailed guides work best; if they want options, lists perform better. Different niches behave differently, but guides and tutorials consistently give me the best time-on-page.

Visitors usually stick around the most when a post teaches them something they can apply right away since practical takeaways make them read through the entire page
 
First As a Blogger we have to convince google bot really, so long artilce with proper headings and images would be great.

I think it depends on your niche. If your niche is educational, then you need a long time because you have to learn many things. But if you have a short description niche site, I think you need short content. but it is not fixed for anyone; it totally depends on the ranking factor. My suggestion is, if long content is ranking up, you need to do this.

If you post step by step tutorials and clear key points, they will stay longer.
 
Case studies and real experiments keep users the longest for me. When people follow a story with results, mistakes, and outcomes, they read till the end to see what actually worked, not just what should work.

The publisher is just as important as the type of content. It's crucial to know the target audience of the platform you're publishing for.

However, if I were to suggest a specific type of content, I would say data-driven press releases. Because it's real news, and the data included in these news stories increases the reader's curiosity. And when they start reading the content, it creates gaps in their minds. They can only fill these gaps in the rest of the news story.
 
If possible, try to amalgamate the 2/3 format and make it one. But I see in my previous experience that long formats perform better for specific niches.
 
Step-by-step tutorials and in-depth guides keep visitors engaged the longest, especially when they solve a clear problem. Lists work well for clicks, but tutorials win for time on page and trust.
