Life used to be so easy when we had Yahoo's Site Explorer to stalk our competitor's backlinking efforts, but since I've been out of the scene for a while, and Yahoo's site explorer is no more, I'm totally stuck.

Can anyone recommend a good backlink checker that is FREE and doesn't have shitty daily limits for free versions?

Majestic SEO is pretty good and if I want more info instead of a general snapshot I usually head to ahrefs to dig around.

I used to look at the backlinks of other websites too much. I feel a brief look with software like traffic travis evaluates a websites toughness very well. Although the link checker in the link assistant software used to be pretty nifty and I am sure still is. Has a price tag though, like most things good...

The problem with ahrefs and opensiteexplorer is their daily limit of 5, which is very annoying. Backlinkwatch is good, but it previously used to work on Yahoo's site explorer, and I can't seem to find new backlinks in it for weeks. Any other suggestions for a good alternative to the (dead) Yahoo site explorer?

Yeah. Ahrefs reduced the limit from 15 to 5 for the free version. This obviously sucks - but the paid package is really worth it.

Internet marketing is a serious business, and if you want to truly make it, you will have to invest in basic tools like a good backlink checker.

Majestic SEO and ahrefs are both great services for checking your competitions backlinking profile, and they are not that expensive(skip eating out a few times a month and you have paid for them;)). The basic plans should be more than enough for you.

If you want to be cheap and go the free route, then don't complain about the limits which, by the way, are easy to enough to bypass with proxies.;)

SEO SpyGlass, but the free version is limited to 1000 links and it doesn't save your competition links.
