Besides the tutorials and stickies on BHW and Matthew Woodward, look at a post the latter does each month called "The Best Of Internet Marketing." It covers great authoritative articles about current SEO. Also go to YouTube and spend some time watching SEO training videos.
The advice given so far looks like it has been some great advice. If you want to focus on SEO, just remember to stay consistent implement. Without that, learning can not be created. Make mistakes, and learn. Figure out what works best and what you like to do, and then outsource all the rest if possible!

You can start with the beginner SEO guide at moz , then read about Google's webmaster guide , search google on keyword research guide , then read search about guide and articles on links ,social signals and analytic .
I don't think you can learn it without actually trying to do it. And anyway, I don't think it's possible to learn SEO properly without spending a year in IM. There are a lot of threads here you can start with.
I am not experienced with SEO but I know one thing in life. If you really want to find/learn/get you will do it no matter what. All you need is your brain and internet.
