Where did you learn SEO?

So i'm still in the stages of learning SEO and always kind of reading.. I've got a shit ton of bookmarked pages that i've read and still need to read.

So I ask, where did you learn?

Website:
- Was there a specific website that had ALL your SEO information?
- Was it free? Paid?

Video:
- Did you watch any videos on Youtube?
- Did you pay for some video courses eg. udemy?

Books:
- Did you read physical books?
- Did you get an ebook that is available somewhere on the Internet?

If you remember where you learned your SEO knowledge can you please post in here, this isn't only for me but hopefully this could also answer all those simple questions that come through the forum.

I learnt white hat SEO from Black Hat World (ironic, right?) and through experimentation on what works and what does not work. As for black hat SEO, I learnt that through observation and also through threads on Black Hat World.

But don't you find it quite hard to piece together the information in order to rank a website? eg. What on-page SEO needs, how to find good keywords etc.?

But I would say basic SEO knowledge can't be too far off from other websites. It's probably not a bad place to learn what SEO is.
 
everything that i know about SEO is from BHW , if its not on BHW i dont trust it
 
I learned the basics here at bhw and might become a pro here too :)
 
Quite a few people have been saying through BHW. I know this place is a damn great place! But are there any other threads, even here that can be made widely available to anyone and everyone?

Yes, I have checked out the sticky threads and used the search function.
 
From BHW, it just takes some time. You have to read a lot and test everything yourself, then you will learn.

As to the best place to learn SEO, head over to Testing. It is a land of where you try this and wait and see and then try that and wait and see and experiment with a variety of processes, ideas and thoughts.

Testing is not the most friendly place on earth as it can be frustrating but the ground can be fertile and you can grow some bodacious crops.

Testing has cops that like to stop you from things that are legal but against various TOS so you need to walk around there and try not to break any laws lest you end up in the pokey.

Testing has some great restaurants so you can try different foods and drink and a bunch of different golf courses that give you an opportunity to try many different shots using all 14 clubs.

It's a nice place, this Testing, fresh air, sunshine and nice people and many have gone there and come out millionaires and the admission is just elbow grease.

That is the best place to go to learn SEO, the land of Testing.
 
Lots of googling, and a bit of trial and error.
 
1st I started with BHW SEO forum. Then I bought a Video Tutorial. By this way I got the basic SEO Idea.
 
Basically I learn SEO thru co-workers and forums like BHW and DP.

Epic!

I began in 2010 with some company I don't want to mention. Basically for $300 per year they told me to put keyword in title, keyword in URL and keyword per every 120 words. They had a crappy keyword research tool and keyword analysis tool too. They said to build links but it was never clear how to do that "naturally". Because we were in 2010 I got some moderate success with that and became interested in the whole thing. After a while I woke up and now I guess I am in the land of Testing. Not a millionaire yet, but have some good ideas.

This is a great metaphor!

However, I do think before not only I or other people visit the land of Testing, we should visit their website to find out what is at the land of Testing... so we know what we're up for, what sites there are to see and how to effectively make the most of our trip to Testing land without wasting all of our resources before the trip is done.

Just to clarify, I've actually got quite a few projects going on :)

- 1 churn and burn MNS
- 1 Social media traffic only site (it's a meme page)
- 1 Technology website that has product reviews, it will be an authority site
- 1 Brand that actually led me to BHW :) (but that project is on hold for now!)
 
I regret learning SEO.

Many years back I built great sites that got good traffic and generated income. I didn't know you could play games with Google. Since I know about SEO I spend way too much time on it and I get less visitors to my sites.
 
I've actually seen enough of your posts to know that you are not the guy who goes to the land of Testing... you want the answers in black and white, and you know what, most of us do too but that is not how this works.

That is why I wrote that; specifically for you.

You wanted help from me as you stated in a PM, well you won't get much better direction than this.
