Hi, is it better if you keep a backup of all your articles + images in a word document and just copy paste after you shift hosting?

I'm using a web hosting that has DirectAdmin instead of cPanel and if I moved to a hosting with cPanel, it would be a problem to use the backup. Sometime ago Updraft WP backup plugin was hacked so not comfortable with using a plugin for this.

What are other ways for smooth backup?

Thanks.

You should be able to export your database from phpmyadmin via directadmin.

After you have a safe copy of your full sql database backup, you can import your database via phpmyadmin on Cpanel.

Thanks. So it will import the images, articles, plugins and all stuff?

I won't have to do anything else at the new hosting? It also fetches cloudflare, google search consoles settings and what not? (sorry I don't have that much knowledge regarding all these so asking)

Everything saved in the database will upload in the same way it is now. Though, you will most likely have to enable the plugins in the Wordpress backend.

Google Search Console should stay the same, depending on how you verified ownsership of the property.

Cloudfare you’ll want to look up independently regarding database transfers.

Alternatively, you can always post a hire a freelancer thread and ensure one of the developers guides you through a smooth transfer.

UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin is best to use. You only need to install fresh wordpress on new host and install updraftplus. Rest their is easy process.

you can find updraftplus on festinger valt and they have 24 hour free trial

There are plenty backup plugins for WP that automate the whole process of migrating alternatively to UpdraftPlus if you don't are not comfortable with this... including both files, databases, etc.... Personally I've always used Duplicator Pro, kind of straightfoward.
In the past I used to migrate manually, but it is a pain in the ass, specially if you switch domain (probably you will not need so, but just in case)
If it's just migrating host, it's super easy: just create a tarball with the files under the WP root dir, then export database, and then import database back with the same user and password in the origin (you may need to edit a bi wp-config.php). After that restore the tarball in the new root folder for the new hosting. I'm sure there are hundreds of step by step guide on Google/Youtube in case you feel uncertain about this process.

you can use all in one wp migration plugin for easy migration

You can use VPS hosting, which comes with CDP backup(Daily automated backup). VPS Hosting will scale your website and give you more features and security. It comes with a cPanel-like control panel, Plesk penal, and DirectAdmin. In addition, you can have full root access and a Dedicated IP. It is low-cost hosting and comes with more features.

VPS(Virtual Private Server) hosting allows you to host your website on VPS, which stores all your data and files required to operate your website. VPS hosting security is higher than shared hosting security.

I always use All in One WP Migration plugin whenever I have to migrate any site. It works just smoothly and there are no hiccups so far.

Once it happened that the exported file was not being uploaded to the destination but then the customer support guided me that it can be uploaded via FTP transfer as well, which was really smooth again. So I strongly recommend using All in One WP Migration plugin for transfers.

BTW have you tried Wordpress Tools > Export feature?

It also works nicely. If you don't want to spend on buying premium plugins then you can try this feature as well
