When to start building links

Hi guys, bit of an SEO newbie here (yeah I managed to make it over 7 years on this forum without delving into SEO).

Anyways decided to jump onto the SEO boat and I have a few questions. Pulled a list of low competition keyword and wrote high quality articles around them for my site. Its a Shopify e-commerece store.

My site is indexed but isn't ranking yet, my question is - how long should I wait before building links? I've done a lot of research on this site and from what I can gather some people start building links straight away whereas others wait a few weeks/months. I'm just curious what peoples opinions are, is it worth waiting to build links or would I be fine to start building them now? What are the benefits to waiting as opposed to starting to build now?

Just to add on, all the keywords I'm targeting are low competition (Ahrefs scores them all between 2-15 with search volumes between 1-2k per month) so I'm not trying to go against the big boys or anything silly.

There must be an interesting story there somewhere? How did you get by 7 years on this forum without SEO?

You can make the profiles on social media etc for your company from the beginning. That should give you an initial boost to the homepage which probably links to your articles. And then just continue as needed.

Hahaha I've mainly focused on targeted ads for traffic in the past with my other sites so never really bothered with SEO. Just getting bored of it all really so wanted to give SEO a try. I've encountered what seem to be amazing opportunities in this new niche I'm getting into and targeted ads aren't allowed with these products so that's why I'm jumping into SEO.
 
Little off-top:
My blog is ranking in the top 3 for keywords with scores up to 18~ without backlinks. But content for the keyword is really quality and covers probably all possible questions.
So for the easy keywords, you don't even need backlinks.

Just a quick question, how long after indexing did it take for your site to start showing in the ranking?

Got a feeling for some of the keywords I'm targeting I should be able to achieve the same, given the fact that the competition is sparse and my competitor's seem to have very bad backlinks (all spam sites - nothing with a shred of authority). TIA

depending on how hard the competition for the keywords you targeting

if so, if you think your site more authority than the competitors, it should be rank faster.
you can try to track your keywords rank position progress using GSC or Ahrefs webmastertool, both are free, or others paid tools.
 
Start with some manual foundational links. Plenty of SM a little of nofollow comments and forum posts, just start signalling Google that you are there are people is interested in your site for whatever thing you are writting about.

Hmm, I am not 100% sure, but I think it was about a week to be indexed, and the was going higher and higher day by day. Now one of the blog posts is the first place, and another is 1-2 depending on the day.
 
Build a few links every month for the next 3 years at least
 
As far as what we recommend our clients, you should wait until a month after your website is built. That's the right time to focus on keeping an active social media presence, as well as on-site SEO. If that's done to the best of your knowledge, assuming it's done right, you can move on with off-site lnikbuilding.
 
Hi, I think that links should be created after 2 weeks, this is the optimal action from the second side.
 
A link building campaign is a process of actively trying to increase links to your website, usually accompanied by some kind of overall goal.
 
Start after a month once your articles are getting indexed.... focus on link diversification... this would help
