When Did You First Go Online?

I remember my first time was in a school lab when they were teaching us how to use the
basic functions of a computer. At that time it was uncommon for everyone to have a home
computer and cell phones couldn't fit in your pocket!

I remember a couple of us use to sneak and play games until the teacher came around to
use. Haha was blackhatting that too I suppose.

Damn Wiz, $3k? That's around $6k in today's dollars.

What kind of machine could you build today with $6k?

How much would it cost today to build that machine u had in 92?

AOL had free web pages
Slingo was the best
AOL trivia was lots of fun
AOL message boards were where I met people who I still talk to today.
Yahoo classifieds made soooooooo much money for people who sold stuff.
AOL's download library was so cool.
You could bake a cake on the time it took to download something considered big back then.
The phone was always busy because we were online.
Homestead websites
Ebay was incredible because it wasn't ruined yet by fake crap from China. Sellers also got top dollar for their auctions.

I have to go in the garage and see what my first computer was that went online. It was $1200. I remember seeing a big ad in the newspaper because it was at the end of November when all the Christmas sales were going on. We had to go to a computer store to get it. Regular department stores didn't carry them yet. It came with a free printer as part of the promotion. I had the first Apple computer but threw it out. It didn't go online. Now they're worth money.
 
Isn't it amazing that even for people that had computers back in the 1990's that most of them would probably consider buying a computer today with inflation adjusted costs to be more expensive. Even most of the hardcore IM and IT people would most not likely spend $5,000 in 2014 for a computer but in 1992 they would have spent $3,000 for one. Of course outside of video editing/cad rendering there is not much one can do to really take advantage of a $5,000 computer. Even most internet speeds available would cause a backlog on such a computer for IM.

in 1999 in British Council it costed me 3$ and i had only 3$ in my pocket which i spent all on buying one hour and i made my first yahoo mail account during that time had to return back home without bus because i had spent all money on internet and in 2000 i made my first mailing list
 
I first went online with my dad in 1992 or 1993, I was like 6 years old at his work. In 1994, we got a hewlett-packard computer with prodigy.net internet service. I was pretty much left to my own devices, (Figured out how to go online and look up info on carmen sandiego I remember for some weird reason). I was just fascinated, I built my first website at 11, and then I guess the rest is history, Lol.

it was on 1999 , the connetion was terrible at that time
charging one page takes more than 15min lol

First site at 11- that's amazing. I assume you don't still have it? I wish I wouldn't have lost my first site. It was soooo horrible, but it would be so neat to see it again.
 
I think I was 10(might have been 11) when I had my first "site" but it was just an aol hometown site. It was like 6 1/2 years later that I made an attempt at a site again but that time it was just a template from godaddy free sites.

Oh my god it was awful, and no I don't, I don't think the web host even still exists. It was just about digging up rocks and fossils because I liked dinosaurs and thought I was so cool for knowing how to use HTML. Which I guess was officially my first "programming" language now that I think about it. Oh, good times. Sort of, it was just so slow, idk how we did it guys.
