    Tonight, I decided to check out several of recommended free Html Editors:

    I spent some time reading the search results from Google and eliminated the ones that people have low opinions of, and settled on the short list below for hands-on testing.

    The ones I checked out are:

    CoffeeCup (Free edition)
    KompoZer
    NoteTab Light
    Trellian WebPage

    I rejected CoffeeCup (Free edition) because it is too crippled.

    I rejected KompoZer because it reformats my easy to read lines into ultra-long strings upon saving

    I rejected Trellian because it cannot even do search and replace right.

    I am staying with NoteTab Light because it does not do any of the above things, although I have just started using it.

    Another program I will look into is the highly rated NotePad++.

    Is NotePad++ better than NoteTab Light?

    I don't know yet, since I am in a hurry to do some html pages right now but will no doubt take a look at NotePad++ in the future when I am not as rushed.

    So, the above are my share of actual experience.

    Anyone wants to recommend something better or comparable that I should look into in the future?

    I use Komposer all the time even though I have dreamweaver. I have tried most of them and are quite able to hard code pages without an editor. To get rid of the added code all I do is add internal CSS. Here is one you can copy...

    ...put this in the head tags and code should be clean so long as you save your page at the start along with your template. Just chabge the varibles to whatever you like...

    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    .contentcell { padding-right: 8px; padding-left: 8px}
    body, p, td, li { font-family: Verdana, "Arial", Times, serif; font-size: 12pt}
    .style1 {font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13pt}
    A {
    text-decoration : none; font-family: Verdana;font-size: 11pt;color : #0000BF }
    A:hover {
    text-decoration : none;
    color : #0837FF;
    }
    h1 { font-family: Impact, Arial; font-size: 30pt; color: #660000}
    h2 { font-family: Impact, Arial; font-size: 26pt; color: #0000CC}
    h3 { font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 15pt; color: #000000}
    h4 { font-family: Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 13pt; color: #000000}
    h5 { font-family: Georgia, Arial; font-size: 16pt; color: #000041}
    h6 { font-family: Georgia, Arial; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000}
    .caption { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 8pt}
    -->

    </style>

    I've always preferred dreamweaver now because I've used Homesite for years before that. When I'm at work and don't have an HTML editor, I just use notepad for my light editing. I can't really do 'heavy work' out to sea because our bandwidth is so slow that creating full pages with graphics and the like and hten uploading them would take too long.

    I've been using Notepad+ for years now. I still love it, but maybe I should check what features the others have on offer.

    Notepad++ for quick edits
    WeBuilder for heavy coding
    EmEditor for massive files like DB's, log files etc it opens +240GB files.

    I used to use UltraEdit a lot but it's become fairly bloated.

    I don't understand why anyone would want anything other than DW 8. The new CS versions of dreamweaver apparently do more things but from my point of view they are just bloated and don't always act the way you would want.

    Dreamweaver 8 all the way, if you can't buy it just get a cracked version.

    It depends what you're doing really.

    Are you doing simple editing or advanced editing?

    I mean theres one that's better than the other in one prospect, but vice versa.

    Aurora Web Editor, You can download a free one or buy the full version.
    aurorawebeditor dot com

    The Aurora Web Editor is 2 Editors in 1!
    The Visual Editor: Create websites quickly and easily - just like when you use a word processor! Unlike some other Web site creation software, you don't need to learn to code HTML! The visual editing environment (WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get) displays your website the way it will look once online. Adding text, pictures and links is a breeze. You can even drag items around the screen to resize and position them exactly how you want.

    The Code Editor: For those Web developers who prefer to code webpages manually, the Aurora Web Editor offers a rich HTML coding environment. A HTML tutorial is included.

    Like all adobe products, dreamweaver does has the 30 trial if you want to try before your buy or get a crack. I have tried probably all of them over the years since 1995 and I have used dreamweaver since version 1.0 and they all have their little quirks.
