Hei!

Currently working on an application and I'm looking for new ways of promoting it. Starting a blog is on my list. What's your best advice for starting a blog from zero?

Thanks,
b.

Build relation with your readers and with your niche related bloggers and Industry leaders. Become feature there ...And also spend time daily to learn new methods

Choose a tone that you feel would appeal to your target audience and use that tone consistently throughout your blog.

I second the matthewwoodward recommendation! His advice works well with any niche I have found, and I honestly regret not following his advice before when I had first started blogging years ago.

Read those guides above, doing everything well and always keep quality in mind. Most importantly if it's for your own application then write the content yourself and write stuff that's engaging.

write informative articles about your niche, posts that solve a problem your target audience might have. Make sure they are unique and that'll start your blog off, update on a regular basis to keep interest.

Find a popular niche and add some great content to it.

Write about things that other are interested in but something you also enjoy. Nothing worse than being uninspired.

Blog on topics that you know are already POPULAR in your niche.

Here's a quick CHEAT SHEET

Step 1: Find the most popular blogs in your niche

Step 2: Run them through quicksprout to find their most social content

Step 3: Come up with a much better version (up-to-date information, more list items, more graphics, video version, etc etc)

Step 4: Do a backlink check of your competitor's top content and contact those linkers to link to your stuff as well

Step 5: Run your competitors' content through Topsy and get those Twitter users to share your stuff as well.

Step 6: Do blogger and outreach and get other bloggers to discuss your content if they are already discussing similar content.

The key is to STOP WASTING ON BLOGGING DAILY and focus on CONTENT PROMOTIONS INSTEAD

The hardest part I think is balance: finding a niche that's small enough to dominate but large enough for people to care. You also need to balance your content generation w/ your content promotion (like blackbeans says above).

Don't do it at all, but only do it if you are seriously motivated by the substance of your blog. Very few people can effectively blog about everything and anything.

I found the suggestion to Matthew Woodwards website very helpful, there's a lot of great information in there for novice internet marketing bloggers looking to organize and outline some sort of guideline.

Some tips for you friend, Read it before start blogging.

Get ideas from your audience
Understand your audience
Write for yourself first
Build your email list
Love your existing readers
Focus on building an amazing call-to-action
Give stuff away
Be consistent
Give away your knowledge
Be true to your voice
Write catchy headlines
Be Yourself

Make it worth referencing

Always think about the quality and how unique your articles are. Build a good subscriber base and go by what you think they'll like. Make sure all your content is of high quality otherwise you'll lose or gain a bad reputation.

Make controversial posts every now and then to encourage commenting, always replay to comments and have an effective anti-spam system.
