Everyone seems to be chasing the same things lately. Wondering what you think is overhyped vs what’s quietly working.

"Keyword density" and obsessing over exact LSI keywords are wildly overrated. Google's NLP understands topic relevance, not arbitrary word counts. Also, mass guest posting on low-authority sites is a waste; focus on a few high-DA, relevant placements. What's working is building topical authority through comprehensive content hubs and earning editorial backlinks from real mentions.
 
I completely agree with the points made about overhyped methods, especially the obsession with keyword density and chasing low-quality backlinks. It's refreshing to see people focusing on building topical authority and earning high-quality links. I've also noticed that many are overlooking the importance of technical SEO, such as site speed and mobile responsiveness, which can have a significant impact on rankings. In my experience, chasing backlinks at any cost is still overhyped. lots of people focus on link quantity or spammy placements, but if your content, UX, and topical authority aren’t solid, those links barely move the needle. what quietly works now is high-quality content clusters, internal linking, user engagement, and real niche mentions stuff that builds authority organically and sticks long term.
 
Right now, overhyped tactics are usually mass AI content without differentiation and “shortcut” link schemes. What’s quietly working is slow topical authority building, real brand signals, and genuinely useful content.

In my opinion, pure AI-generated content without any manual editing is becoming the most overrated. While it's fast, Google seems to be catching on quickly, so adding a human touch and some real-world data is more important than ever.

Yes I agree.

Many people are obsessed with metrics. It is a plague to be honest.

We have few sites in our network with DR under 1, for example 0.7, that push ranks like some DR 50s don’t.
 
Most overrated is using AI as a replacement to people. AI definitely makes things easy but it's not a magic pill to solve problems. You can't rely blindly on AI for content, backlinks, or automation.
 
The most overrated method currently is posting chatbot copy/paste responses to popular forums with the aim to reach 100 posts and sell their accounts. Nobody in this thread would be guilty of that would they?

Just building links for the sake of it. Just focussing on number of links is not going to have any effect.
 
Blind link building without content quality is overratedcv links alone don’t save a site anymore if users don’t engage or trust it.
 
Things like chasing every new AI tool or copying the same short-term growth hacks feel pretty overhyped to me, because once everyone’s doing it
 
Links still matter, but without high-quality content they fall short. If users don’t engage or trust a site, backlinks alone won’t move the needle.
 
Building links blindly is overrated without engaging, trustworthy content, even strong backlinks won’t lift your site anymore.
 
most of the comments in this thread are wrong. custom AI automations using n8n can build better content that most human writers. Using Ahrefs MCP with claude can also help with keyword research.

For backlinks, low quality backlinks can work for blog articles with un-competitive keywords. For landing pages and homepage it is recommended to buy higher quality backlinks. Topical authority and niche relevant backlinks would be ideal but I have backlinks from high DR poems/quotes/bolloywood sites and they definitely move the needle and cost about $100 each.


To answer your question - schema markup is the most overrated method, it doesn't achieve anything and can be a pain to automatically & retroactively implement.
