I've read the threads and there seems to be mixed responses. Why do people do it manually? Is there not a max follow limit that could get you banned?

You really have to specify what you're talking about. You say "max follow limit" so I'm guessing Twitter or Instagram.
I find it senseful enough to do the first 500-700 followers manually so that you get good followbacks and then carry on the work with bots. That's just what I think but ~

There isn't much of a big difference. Bots basically do what people do manually. So, as long as you use your bot wisely, you won't get banned. The followback using bots could be as good as people get manually, if you make it follow the right people. People who follow manually tend to follow people which have been active recently, which you can also do with a bot.

Thats what I dont understand. I read on another thread that people had been saying if you do it manually you'll get more followers? Prob because they can follow the more active ones and I'm not sure if that even makes a big difference.

Do you know if there is a limit to which you would recommend following per day?

There is a limit which affects both methods -- bots and manually.

To be honest, in my experience I think it varies. Depending on your limits. But if I were to recommend you something, I'd say 50 followings per hour should be safe to do.

The biggest difference is the ability to scrape the most active followers. Manually, I could follow a big accounts most recent followers, which would mean that 20-30 people were online in the past few minutes, meaning they are (probably) still online, so there's a higher chance that they will see your follow requests.

Is the difference in conversion rates really that noticeable? So the most recent followers are just ordered in their followers view?

the biggest difference that manually is a lot less likely that you go over the limits especially day after day, whereas with using a bot, you can easily do that
manually you don't have to imitate a human, while if you're using a bot, you should and that's what a lot of people fail to do, which can happen by either using not too random delays and/or too high numbers, leaving some kind of pattern etc.

i think i asked this once from weblues and i'm pretty sure followliker is designed to scrape the most recent followers/users of a hashtag, so you can have the same effect as if you would do it manually

True, but manually I open a big page's followers and follow the top 30-40 in half a minute. With a bot I could follow them, but with 30+ sec delays, which means maybe half of them or more will be offline by then.

@OP, yes it is ordered from top to bottom. Well I noticed that these followers are more active in the long run.

What do you mean by "imitate a human"?

Is there a specific setting to get most recents in followliker?

well, if you leave that big delays, it's sure that you won't be able to do the same with the bot :), but why would you leave that big delays, when you don't do the same manually? just because it's a bot, it's not more unsafe than doing it manually

exactly what it means, to imitate human actions: doing random things with random delays and not exactly the same things at the very same time day by day

it's set to do that by default

So Instagram has algorithms that detect patterns and if patterns are similar it may send a warning? Thats what you mean?

People usually do it manually just because they are trying to lower the risk of getting banned, that is understandable to a certain extent.

However, if you are smart about using bots and you are not greedy and agressive with your setting, the chances of your account being banner are minimal.

Not many people think about it and realize it and therefore they spend endless amounts of hours doing these activities manually :) Hope that helped.

About 400-600 a day. No problem man.

Well I think IG can see if it's their app or some other software because I'm perfectly okay following fast manually, but I immediately get a temp ban when going under 30 sec in delays.

yes, that is exactly what i mean
i'm not saying that it will happen for sure, but if i were to grow an authority acc using a bot and thinking in long-term, i'd try to look as human as possible
