CorelDraw for beginners. It's cheap and easy to use. Vector based.
Adobe Illustrator = Industry standard tool in vector drawing applications.
Adobe Photoshop = This is the very popular graphic software.
AutoCad and SketchUp = For making realistic 3D objects.

Depends on what kind of design you want to do,if you want to do vector design then you have to learn Illustrator.You can also use photoshop to create website template design,banner,flyers & many more.
 
It depends on what graphics are you going to do. Photoshop and Illustrator are good combination but don't be afraid to try some products from the Corel family.
