It depends on what you are promoting. For racy topics you may try just chat and then links. This is the classic method, although you might be banned really fast.

I think i read somewhere that you can get banned for bulk messaging with it but i don't think doing it properly should get you banned

I think this doesn't work, you can get banned by using bulk messages.
