Too much information. I agree a step-by-step manual would probably kill it. One based on WP because it is relatively simple.

Craploads of misinformation fed to them by IM gurus, combined with crippling incompetence.
I agree-- I think the hardest thing for people just getting started is just picking one thing and really learning it and making it work. I tell people-- pick something, do it from beginning to end, put yourself on restriction from starting anything else. Stop doing things halfway and getting distracted, just decide on something (like SEO, or PPC, or social media marketing), put your head down, and do it until it works.

working from home...
as odd as that sounds, its true, i have had a problem working from home.
since i am home, its hard to concentrate on work and not being home.
so i have to isolate myself and 1 other thing, but it all works out

From all the noobs I've seen and met, I would say Taking Action.
Most are simply too lazy or expect instant/overnight sucess.
The other I guess would be linkbuilding.

1. getting it thru their head there's no biz-in-a-box, and that they'll have to make their own opportunity instead of relying on gurus, courses, and ebooks. a tough one to learn 
2. learning not to treat their biz like it's a social club. j.lant wrote that many people are in business for social reasons and don't care about making any money. their "business" gives them ready-made friends and daily "tasks" to do, which they often don't perform.
3. knowing where to find, and how to network with, people who can really help them to get ahead. trying to go it alone leads to nowhere.

Most definitely Information Overload.........I struggle to this day with it....
And also solid workable steps to accomplish a technique or goal...lack of this contributed even more to the confusion from Information overload....

I would say time. The time it takes to learn and finding something to start with. When I stumbled across this board with so many threads/posts, I didn't know where to start and was downloading a bunch of stuff. Find a method that fits you and try it out and having the patience to see it through.

I'd say TAKING ACTION (also PROCRASTINATION)! Even I face the same problem every while. The inner self keeps on telling.. hey what if this doesn't works n all crap! And ofcourse the Information Overload. People just keep hanging in the Download section for long and download each of them waiting for the one that will change their life! Yes, this happens. If BHW were to show the traffic each section is getting then it would make sense to all of you. People (including myself though) never complete and stick to a thing and move away to next shiny method halfway and in the end consider all of their attempts a BS.
And yes, investment is where many newbies get stuck. Not everyone knows where to get clients to write articles for. There are many challenges associated with IM and also lack of Motivation that makes people go down and down in Quadrant III of Self Belief Graph!
