What was your first mistake in IM?

The first thing I did was buy 100 dollars worth of Squidoo lens on skinny jeans. Only to have the seller do something with it, all I remember is trying to find the lens after a month and not finding it anymore.

Am I doing IM right? Haha lol.

Completely wrong keyword research...i though i can rank for some forex term easy :)
 
My mistake was believing almost everything. I fell for the tricks, I did lose time but not money, I could later sell my websites and recover the investment.
 
First mistake - trying to make $10,000 per day with hyip programs.

Second mistake - trying to buy cheap traffic that would convert at 1% , you know the good 10k visitors for $5 that at 1% conversion will make you thousands ;)

Third mistake - not using xrumer when it first came out.
 
My 1st Mistake: Writing all my web 2.0 content myself, and not outsourcing anything. ie. Needless to say, progress was slooowwww.

My 2nd Mistake: Relying on search engines for all my traffic & income.
 
Biggest mistake, not first:

Buying Venom SEO: $600 down the drain right there.

Other bad BHW software purchases include:

Forum bot - big issues, Dev never updates
Get Article Pro - Dev abandoned it
Scrapeboard - Purchased on promise, not great
Proxy multiply - bandwidth eating beast - Dev ignores simple suggestions that will make it better.
Captcha Sniper - doesn't solve recaptcha - which means it only has limited use. Only used it a handful of times.

Other mistake: trusting small hosting companies to pay their affiliates....over 1k owed to me right now....and that's not looking good.
 
First Mistake : Offering SEO Services ( Without Ranking OWN sites)

Second Mistake : Choosing Wrong Niches
 
My first mistake was spending over 4 months working on my first site that was never going to rank as I chose the wrong keywords. Needles to say I've now spent days learning about keyword research and have had much more success with sites.

My second and on-going mistake: being a perfectionist. Everything I outsource I tend to re-write. I'm never happy with the layout of my site. I guess I've got a little OCD and guess what... it doesn't make me bank. I know taking imperfect action is the way forward. I'll never accept crappy content for my sites but then again it doesn't need to be a PhD thesis... argh. Need to try and banish these demons!!
 
Mistakes are fine, as long as you learn from them. A wise man once said the secret to success was to "double the rate of failure"
 
Thinking "sweet, $100 a day! i like this." And then eventually realizing for every one of those days, there are 10 days of $0.

I got memberships on both of those sites and bought tons of refs, spending like 300 dollars...
onbux banned me like a week later and neobux referalls never clicked

Huge waste of time and money...it used to be the "thing" everyone talked about but I don't think anyone really profitted on it
 
I'm still pretty new to this (around 3-4 months in now, just started really researching a week ago). I would have to say my largest mistake to date has been spending $400 on banner advertisements on a forum. I created my first website from scratch then I thought of advertising it through banners since that is all I knew. The company that owned the forum told me I would need around 100,000 impressions for it to be good and I stupidly agreed. Here is the worst part...I thought that meant I would get 100,000 visitors to my website since I didn't know what impressions meant. I ended up getting around 100 visits from the banner campaign and it really opened my eyes to actually researching before I did something.
 
My mistake was that I was thinking that doing some basic stuff like to create a website, to put a product or something as an affiliate or adsense and the traffic and money would start to roll down from the start. As easy as that. But I guess there are no easy money :)
IM is all about read hard, work hard, work smart and have patience. :)
 
Try to follow some Guru's ebook. This was also my first experience with IM.
And the second big mistake was that I registered here (I was just looking for some download) and then forget of this forum for almost 4 months until I discovered it again.

From that part is everything better :)

I guess lack of action is the prime mistake for everything in life. We think, think, think....he best way for this, the best way for that, the best website building tool, the best wp-pluggins, the best backlinking strategy....we need to take action. Make a prototype....make a poor website, poorly keyword optimized, with poor content and almost absent backlinking....then we start improving each one these components....much like building a personage in a RPG game :)

Just do it! Then improve it!
 
My first mistake was when I didn't take any upfront for a website and then the guy never paid me for the website :(
