what to do with expired domain like this?

I can come across some domains that recently being used to redirect, I think it's not a seo redirect, it's a "legitimate" redirect, it's like the domain owner tried to redirect it to a new domain to sell some self made tshirt.

so for such domain already being used by the original owner for redirect, is it still good to use? or has it already lost it's value?

Check out the backlinks profile and the anchor text, if everything is good and the expired domain have good stats. You can buy it and use it as your tier 1 backlinks or even 301 redirect. And don't forget to check if the domain still indexed.

Is it niche relevant? Clean links then you may try but I feel 301 don’t really give much power in the long run

the link juice literally don't work like real life juicer/mixer lol... it just tell google bots that the backlinks on domain A are now redirecting to Domain B for 301 redirection... and when you remove the redirection from Domain A then it becomes unique domain for search bot and its all backlinks become again unqiue for the particular domain...

I swear, that if I find the idiot who started to spread this bullshit, I will hang him on the nearest lamp post.

95% of the domains that have expired were redirected at some point. Whether to a parking page or somewhere else, whether you see it in their history or not. Whether it's legitimate redirect or SEO redirect, it doesn't absolutely matter. Redirect is a one way street and shit doesn't flow back. That's why I sometimes even prefer redirects, because you can be pretty sure, that nobody spammed the domain with shit links (mostly).

If the domain is clean, feel free to use it.

I also just read the "expired domain myth" post you have started in 2017, great post! sorry but one more question for you, it seems that you answered it before too, but now it's 2020, so if it's non-related niche, and let's say site niche is "traveller blog" and my niche is cat related products, so if I take the "traveller blog" niche domain and slap a post something like "when I am Thailand, I came across this cat product and it saved my cat" do you think that's good enough in terms of passing same amount of niche related link value?

I know you might say something like "no one really knows, you have to test it" but I guess I am just trying my luck and see if you have some experiences with such setup.

Depends how spammy the niche is, but as a rule of thumb, definitely.

Yes you can use that domain. Check with its history, backlink profile and relevancy. If the domain is good and clean you can use it for money website or You can setup PBN.

If these domains have good backlinks profile, use 301 redirect and over time you can see some positive effects

It means, that even if the domain was redirected to a penalized domain, the penalty doesn't flow back to the domain that has been redirected. However, if the domain you are redirecting is penalized, then the penalty would pass on to the domain that is a target of the redirect. That was meant by one way street.

Regarding repurposing - It still applies, yes, but the example is a bit too much for my taste.
